Firstly, I asked the OP for the definition... that is the post that you responded to. Secondly, you made an inaccurate assumption. Read your post and see if you can find it. Thirdly, you made an inaccurate assumption in the post above. Let's see if you can find that, too. All in all, your post were pretty much failures. My problem is that you made assumptions based on nothing.

Several others have given definitions as well, so I presume they were more to your liking. I have made assumptions, as we all do. Is it my agreement with the statement that political correctness is the profane product of mediocre minds that you find offensive? If so isn't that carrying PC to an extreme level given the definition of mediocre? Finally, if so, do you think a political debate forum is appropriate place to be that thin-skinned? As far as I can see, those most vehemently claiming to be anti-PC are often merely nostalgic for a time when being gratuitously offensive had few consequences. Those who are naturally polite, well brought-up, or instinctively open-minded rarely need to even think about whether something they say is PC or not.

PC to me is like a RL version of DP's DBAJ rule.

I thought I was bad for struggling between 3 and 4, the I see the other results and I wonder what I am doing wrong.

    1) I have not seen any definition that defines PC in the context of this thread, appropriately.
    2) I have no issue with you assuming what PC means. I do have issue with you assigning that to other members of the forum. These are assumptions that have no basis in reality and are personal attacks. Having issue with that is not PC.
    3) You are not being helpful... at least not to your cause.

You seem polite and definitely not a jerk in your postings. I can't think what you've got to worry about. Everyone makes mistakes. I often let my mouth run faster than my brain and end up putting my foot in it. It's mortifying but, if you're known not to be a jerk, people are quite forgiving in my experience.

I would say... Refusing to discuss the hard issues by pretending the elephant in the room isn't there.

ETA: I would also say that there is a difference between politeness and political correctness. The two are not necessarily the same thing.

Is calling other people politically correct insulting, especially when they agree they are so? You yourself said that you were a three by a given definition. I provided another and suggested by that definition it would be significantly higher. I have a difficult time believing that assuming someone is PC based on their own admissions as well as other input into a thread such as this could be offensive to anyone.

Anyway, posters label one another as racists and bigots on a daily bases everywhere on these threads, but there seems to be selective sensitivity as concerns the label of PC.

Btw, mediocrity permeates this thread and this site. The word in itself is perhaps not politically correct, but then it should not be considered heresy, even at the alter of political correctness.

Thank you. I try to think about the concept of "you can catch more flies with honey". Especially when I am trying to learn people's thoughts, I really enjoy getting into genuine conversations.

    I agree 100% with that.

Politeness and political correctness are two different things completely!
