Should we tolerate racist views that are based on religion?

By some traditions, the punishment/mark of Cain....was black skin.

Curse and mark of Cain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And again, some believe that the descendants of Ham, who was punished by God, became modern-day blacks.

Curse of Ham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So, since racism against blacks can sometimes be considered to be motivated by religion, should we be expected to have more tolerance for such beliefs...as a way of respecting religion?

some argue that since homophobia is sometimes motivated/excused by religion, homophobia should be tolerated as religious-expression. I want to know how far we should tolerate bigotry, as a form of religious expression.

Let haters hate, so long as they are not harassing, stalking, being violent, etc. No matter why they hate. Whether it's religion, simple xenophobia, or a bad experience as a child. Free speech is free speech.

It has nothing to do with respecting religion. It has to do with respecting the principal of American democracy - even when it's unpleasant.

i pretty much agree. as long as you aren't harrassing, stalking, or attacking others, you should be able to have your stupid beliefs and express them.

Racism is racism...regardless of the origin teaching racism. There comes a time in all our lives when we "all" should be able to recognize the social damage caused by all of the "isms"...along with all of the bigoted beliefs that people possess.

Unfortunately, when a person has been socialized as a racists either by family members, neighborhood, churches, schools...or whatever...and racism is supported or in some way reinforced. It's really difficult to erase those teachings and reinforcements in such people. They genuinely believe that such beliefs are normal, justified, reasoned out...logical.

It's sad. But it is what it is.

Nobody is biased free. But there's a difference between thinking bias and acting on those biases.

Bigotry is by far the more obvious than is racism, in my humble opinion.

some in this forum have argued that religion-based homophobia should be tolerated as the free-expression & free-exercise of faith. if that's the case..then why not religion-based racism?

But if these beliefs alter law makers decisions is it a good thing to let them hate?
The flame that is between us could set every soul on fire. I would love to take that heat and let's fill the whole world with desire.
