Do you care or think about your fellow american?

I post in swings but I do a lot of reading and what I'm wondering is if its rare for people to think about their fellow americans? It seems to be common place for certain members here not to give two ****s about anybody but themselves! This is not the american way IMO and its insulting and hypocritical.

What I mean is, I have my own personal morals, beliefs and life structure I choose to live by. I however do not expect anybody else to follow them or even care what I do as long as its not impacting them.

For example, Gay equal rights. Now I've gone on record many times admitting I'm not exactly "gay friendly" nor do I really think much of that lifestyle but at the same time, that's not for me to decide for all. It's none of my business. I could never take away their rights and freedoms based on my opinion. I am not a fan but I have no right to force what I believe on them. How does one convince themselves they have the right to tell two other consenting adults who they can or can marry? My marriage is none of your business just like yours is none of mine.

Same with abortion, I'm no fan of abortion (and I laugh at all of those twits that claim people are fans of it) but at the same time its not my body nor my decision to make. I'd like abortions to be as low as possible but I don't want any more legislation than already exists unless technology changes. I personally would never have one (not that I could haha) but I couldn't force a women to 9 months of pregnancy and then give birth against her will. How would that even work with our current rights and freedoms? The logistics of it alone are mind boggling, where in the constitution is that allowed?

Religion, there's religions out there that certainly do not match mine. But I would never make any decisions to impact others religious freedom within its already protected sanctuary. My religion/beliefs are none of your business just like your religion/beliefs are none of mine.

I really have trouble understanding how some people hypocritically convince themselves that its right for them to force their views on others or do things to limit/impact others rights and freedoms based on their own personal opinions.

I'm just saying, I'm not gay friendly, not a fan of abortion and not a fan of others religion but I'd never do anything to impact the rights and freedoms of others on these matters because it's ignorant and hypocritical. It could be MY RIGHTS being impacted if to many people thought this way and it would certainly not be the America I'm proud to live in any more.

Also this isn't about my views above on Equal Gay Rights, Abortion or Religion those are just my examples for me personally. I don't care what your views are in this thread. I'm wondering if you have any issues like these. Are there things you disagree with but understand that in a great country like ours with freedoms and rights, that apply to us all, you simply understand and respect those same rights and freedoms for others.

SO basically do you care, think and respect your fellow americans when it comes to making laws or forcing views or is it all about you and thats it.

most people care about themselves, and whos gonna pickup after their mistakes.no policy can ever fix this unless this country went full on socialist.

i believe the solution is people need to care for people when in need, but not force their view on anyone.laws make no difference, you cant end prejudice short of full brainwashing, but then we might as well live in nazi germany.

the other thing to point out is that all the points you made are wedge issues, created by the left and right to distract eachother.i hear people argue everyday about these issues yet no president has any real power to change them, but people get so riled up about them 50% of the country wants to hang the other 50% while politicians keep being corrupt because no one looks away long enough to notice the importan issues being ignored.

    (R. Cook/R. Greenway/B. Backer/B. Davis)

I'd like to build the world a home
    And furnish it with love
Grow apple trees and honey bees
    And snow-white turtle doves

I'd like to teach the world to sing
    In perfect harmony
I'd like to hold it in my arms
    And keep it company
    (That's the song I hear)
I'd like to see the world for once
    (Let the world sing today)
    All standing hand in hand
And hear them echo through the hills
    For peace throughout the land
    Seriously, just Share.

Re: Do you care or think about your fellow american?

I consider all the mentioned issues of lesser importance than the economic state of our country.

I care that people in the USA and around the world are having issues related to bad economic conditions.

And I think all the attempts to "fix" the issue are making it worse.

That said, the mentioned issues are latched onto by politicians because they CAN do something about such - as opposed to the economy, which has never been improved by messing with it, IMO.

Has I mentioned, my example issues have nothing to do with the topic of thread.

Then, I care about my fellow american in the sense that I think a general improvement of the overall conditions would help me.

That it helps others is a welcome side-effect.

    Perhaps I don't care...hmm.

    seems possible
There are issues that don't directly help me that I still support or at least would oppose.
But then again IMO what is good for my country and what is good for freedom and rights is good for me, whether it directly benefits me or not.

Re: Do you care or think about your fellow american?

Do I care about my fellow Americans? Sure, the same way I care about all people. However, as much as I think everyone ought to be treated equally, I think as much, or more important, everyone ought to be held equally accountable. Everyone needs to be rational and logical and responsible. Those who are not, and who get in trouble for such, really don't deserve the same kind of respect that those who do ought to get. Actions have consequences. People need to deal with the consequences of their actions.

But yes, if you act responsibly and you still get screwed, I'll always have your back.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

Re: Do you care or think about your fellow american?

Outstanding OP! Welcome to another issue-minded Independent who does not need to refer to the Party Platform to decide what he thinks!

Yes, I care for my fellow Americans. I want their rights protected and respected, I want to see those who have fallen on hard times given the welfare they need to get bye, I want to see those who use welfare as a lifestyle of fraud to be prosecuted, I want our soldiers to get the best medical and psychological help possible when they return from fighting wars I don't believe they should have been forced to fight.

I care for those who are without jobs, and I care when jobs they would be happy to do are given to those who have no right to even be in this country. I want religious freedom protected for all of our citizens of all faiths, and of no faith, not just freedom to worship the majority religion while other religions are villified. I care about people who, through no fault of their own, have lost their homes and everything they own to the legalized fraud of deregulated banks, brokers and others, while government "bailouts" are distributed as bonuses to management rather than funneled to the victims of their fraud.

I don't know if this is what you had in mind in the OP, but yes, I do care about my fellow Americans, whether I agree with their politics or social views, because I still believe in a country where individual rights are protected, and ideology is not enforced on an unwilling populace by the rule of law.

Re: Do you care or think about your fellow american?

If, by "do you care?" you mean do I consider other Americans when pondering legislation, and have a concern about how it will impact others even if my ox isn't going to be gored, then the answer is yes.
