I think the USA should follow Starfleet's Prime Directive. Do not interfere with the internal development of alien civilizations.
No we should not partake in political assasinations of any time, unless its in self defense of our country. And this is not one of those times.
Given the opportunity to save a couple thousand people, by assassinating a single man...would you approve?

I love how everybody thinks that by killing one person, one can topple an entire regime or organization. After Kim-Jung-Il was dead, did North Korea topple? After Osama's killing, did Al-Qaeda got dismantled? So do you think that by killing Assad, who was actually a humanist and protested against his father's murderous ways in his early years, the killings of the Syrians could stop? Does anybody truly believe that by killing Hitler, the Nazi regime could have been stopped? There were plenty of potential successors well qualified and sometimes even more qualified, such as Albert Speer and such.
It could be argued as self defense given Syrias sponsorship of terrorism. But I agree, at this particular moment, Syria isnt threatening externally, as far as we know. What should the US do if the UNSC passes a resolution to keep the peace?
Syria hasnt supported terrorism sense 1986......
I wouldn't mind seeing him die, but 1) I doubt it would do much good and 2) It would be illegal to assissinate him.
