its beyond silly, to think the POTUS can effect gasoline prices to any significant degree, after 4 years.

Touché , Thunder. You'd think that people would understand market spot prices are complex and it would virtually be impossible for any president to have such power.
The theory that the U.S. Government has systematically been dumbing down the citizens for many decades has now been proven on November 8, 2016. In fact, not only proven, but quantified.

There is about 0 evidence of that being the case.

Not necessarily. The pipeline debacle and moratorium are two major issues, though McCain possibly would have tried at least one of those so I guess it's kind of a moot point.
Neither side in an argument can find the truth when both make an absolute claim on it.

This is the typical short term thinking from voters that has brought us back to $4.00 a gallon gas.

Probably close to the same, just as I believe the prices would've been close to the same if not a little higher if Gore had got electe instead of Bush.

The point I'm getting confused at is that we're pushing people to have more economical cars that use less gas....and people are driving less which uses less gas....and yet we're somehow horribly surprised when the cost of gas goes up to compensate for the reduction in demand.
Imagine if Walmart owned access to all the streets in your town. You can go to Target or the mom and pop downtown if you want, but all the roads leading there require a toll, whereas the roads leading to Walmart are free. That is not the avenue the internet needs to go down.

Roughly the same. I don't think we'd see significant difference between a McCain presidency and Obama's. Obama may not jump to war quite as fast as McCain, and we got a healthcare "debate"; but that's probably about it.

I voted for $1.86. McCain opposed the Obama stimulus package which saved the world from depression, starvation, locusts and pestilence. With McCain, therefore, we would still be in the depths of the Bush Recession and, thus, paying next to nothing for a tank of gas.

Things would be no different had McCain won. The price of gas would still be about the same.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I am not aware of a debacle. Sorry.
