Is social media making it better or worse for people in oppressive countries?

The people who use social media to let the world know what is going on under oppressive rule understand they are taking a chance in being singles out by oppressive rulers, just like the famous picture in Tiananmen Square. If they had social media at that time the world would have seen more of what was going on. Same thing for the 8/8/88 massacre in Burma. For the most part, many people still do not know what happened in Burma. Now that we have Twitter, Facebook , etc.. people under oppressive conditions have been able to contact others in media blackouts and let the rest of the world see what has been going on and offer support.

When they grabbed up my second amendment I sat still and bit my tongue because, truth be told, Iím allergic to guns. But here we are, you with your cold hard fingers wrapped around the neck of my first amendment and Iíve got to shout as loud as I can, because if I donít, before you know it, you wonít let me say nothing at all"

    Short-term worse. Long-term better.
