How generous are you? (Part I)

You are given a large sum of money (more than a million dollars) and are asked to split it between yourself and another person you don't know. You are sitting at a table with this person when the decision is made. Let's say that this other person is from the same country you are, but you don't know anything else about them.

You can take what you want and give them the remainder. You can even decide to give them nothing. The other person has no input into your decision.

How much money do you allocate to the other person?

EDIT: If you know what this experiment is, please don't ruin it for others.

Not much to go on here. I'd want to know who the other person is. Or at least some of who they are.
But your scenario is kind of confusing. First part says we have to split it. Second part says we get to choose whether to split it at all?

I wouldn't trust them to manage it wisely. I would keep it all, but use every cent of it for the benefit of my fellow man.

    In principle, the final option.

Knowing nothing about them and having little faith in the majority of mankind to use money wisely (look at a good percentage of lotto winners) I would keep it for myself knowing I would likely use it more wisely.

I voted 50%, because all I need is enough to keep me comfortable for the rest of my life, and I'm not that greedy.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

Going with the poll itself and the choices..I would probably keep it all. I do not want to donate funds and not know where it is going.

I'm gonna go for the obvious 50 answer, since I trust neither of us to spend it in a wise or productive manner.

Given the above conditions I chose 10%

Enough to change the persons life for the better (usually, if it was Mitt Romney $100 000 would be meaningless) and enough for me to set myself and my family up very well

Re: How generous are you? (Part I)

I voted 50% because all I would want is enough to keep me and my loved ones comfortable and able to donate some more to causes of my choosing. If I knew who set up this scenario I might be willing to give more. I strive to not envy what others have because it causes pain, so I am happy with what I have.

When they grabbed up my second amendment I sat still and bit my tongue because, truth be told, Iím allergic to guns. But here we are, you with your cold hard fingers wrapped around the neck of my first amendment and Iíve got to shout as loud as I can, because if I donít, before you know it, you wonít let me say nothing at all"
