Interested to know, do you have a phobia, and is it on my list?

Depending on how it's defined, Islamophobia is arguably a contradiction in terms; I would say it's not an irrational fear.

To my knowledge, I've never met anyone with an irrational fear of homosexuals, but I'll get back to you if I ever do.

Yup, that's the point of the thread, I have a particular dislike for those terms.

But anyway, anything related to actual phobias is still welcome.

I have a phobia of forums, I am deeply traumatized by being here.

Those terms have had semantic drift. Irrational fear is not the only definition in those cases.

I would say for me, Australians, though it is not irrational.

The accusation of being ____ophobic is usually used as a nuclear option to shut down debate, though. "Your fear is irrational, therefore there's no point in arguing with you. I win." Speaking as someone who thinks homosexuals and Muslims should be 100% equal under the law, people doing that really get a rise out of me.

How something is misused is irelevant to how something is properly used. The term racist is thrown around here constantly and improperly. That does not change the fact that racism does exist.

I'm pedantic about semantics.

Then you should be aware that meanings do change over time for words. Homophobia and to a lesser extent Islamaphobia are two examples.

But the meaning for phobia hasn't changed, it's been missaplied.

You did not ask about the meaning of the word "phobia". You asked about specific compound words that include "-phobia". Those words have undergone semantic drift.

You should fear me. Muhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Yes, I have mysophobia.

Well, homophobia has, it was originally coined as men fearing to be perceived as gay, but islamophobia was coined specifically to denote a dislike, which is incorrect usage.

Yes, I have mysophobia.

You don't want to catch my awesomeness disease.

Whats the one where you dont travel very far from home? Not really housebound, but close to it. I have that. Im afraid of panic attacks or not being able to find a bathroom (dont ask) which causes the panic attack.

I dont like spiders either, but I'm not scared of them. Except maybe a huge tarantula.

Hikikomori?

Doesn't mean it has to be accepted.

Accepted by whom?

It would be wrong for an American to be as awesome as an Australian.

The words awesome and Australian do not belong in the same sentence, unless one is talking about Julia Gillard or Nicole Kidman.

:) did you know that when MEU's (Marine Expeditionary Units) pull into ports, Australian women write their phone numbers onto tennis balls and throw them at the ships/into the groups of Marines?

Maybe agoraphobia. "People with agoraphobia often have a hard time feeling safe in any public place, especially where crowds gather. The fears can be so overwhelming that you may be essentially trapped in your own home." Agoraphobia - MayoClinic.com

Hardly surprising. Prostitutes are generally not too fussy where they get their next dollar from.

:cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo:

Have you met Julia Gillard? Or heard her open her mouth?
You may think her accent is cute. But it's not!! It sounds like .... A foreigner doing a really bad australian accent. We don't talk like that!

Agoraphobia.

I have that. It comes with the territory of social anxiety, but weirdly enough, I'm not afraid of public speaking.

I guess the difference is casual socializing has no structure. Public speaking has lots of structure. When you're giving a speech, you don't have to deal with smart asses interrupting you and claiming words have no reliable meaning.
