I'm all for it. They've more than earned it.

The only possible victory would be if we knew better than to go over there in the first place..We must learn that man's progress takes time...And we should be more concerned with our own progress.

Again, not the point of the thread. I'm not letting this thread get de-railed. I knew it would if I didn't watch it and comments like this one only lead to someone else arguing the benefits of the war. That, in turn, devolves the whole thread into a shouting match about the pros and cons of the war in Iraq and before you know it, the poll is forgotten. There are many threads to argue this point, please go to one of them if you would like to do that.

Or spit on? Is that what you wanted? I'm sorry, but vets like me and apdst aren't allowing that to happen anymore. You shouldn't either, especially considering it was your war that has made everyone so hyper-aware about the treatment of returning servicemen. Don't forget the way your generation was treated and then expect us to endure it too.

To be blunt, if I saw someone spitting on or harassing a veteran personally I would probably punch their lights out and gladly go to jail for it. The welcome home parades of tradition were to remind us that we are lucky to have our freedoms and there exists a people who lived under stricter controls and risked their lives for same. If nothing else parades serve to remind all of us that there is a payment greater than money involved in war and our heros marching that out is an excellent idea.
Neither side in an argument can find the truth when both make an absolute claim on it.
