I know plenty of you are going to come into this thread thinking, "who cares if he's a good person, its about whether he could be a good President." If that's how you feel, okay, I respect that, but that's not the question here. The topic is whether he is or is not a good person. I was just really curious, because I haven't seen this question addressed seriously before, though I admit I haven't been on DP very much this election season.

A politician's personal life only seems to matter if they're not sanctimonious hypocrites.

I saw, "Does Anyone Think Gingrich is a..." on the newest post sidebar and was predicting the word "scumbag" to come after it.

depends on if you are ok with a person asking for an open marriage to please a 3rd party women....

I really have a tough time saying people are not good. It seems to me that the same could just as easily be said about me. I may not like the guy, but I'm not going to cast judgment.

If the guy is a scumbag then what makes people think he won't be a scumbag president?

He's a hypocritical, petty, vindictive, sanctimonious son of a bitch. But at least he can keep a straight face when he lies to us about loving this country; if the President tried it, he'd damned well catch fire.

So, we're believing the estranged ex-wife of someone without any other proof besides her word? What is this, Judge Judy? Even she asks for witnesses!

I think Newt has made mistakes that he acknowledges and is honest about, but I don't think he's a "bad" person.

I think he has some of the smartest solutions I've heard yet but nobody has the qualifications to judge him, maybe determine his abilities. If you think he has a faulty decision making process then that's a factor but not his goodness or badness.

Newt has the trifecta - multiple affairs, multiple ethic violations, and multiple incidence of double-crossing members of his own team. I just cannot consider this candidate a good person based on his record.

Personally, I think the dude's a prick. He makes some good arguments sometimes, but that's because he's a prick. I think he's a war dodger as well. War dodging doesn't sit well with me. The guys on his 3rd marriage and his previous two ended because he cheated with the next wife. What the heck man? First, who is attracted to this guy? Second, who marries a guy that met them while he was married to another chick? Third, who is attracted to this guy, named NEWT? Who goes by Newt? Put all of these factors together and what do you have? A dork with money who doesn't like to get his hands dirty and uses the aforementioned money to get women out of his league. And yes, I've seen his second wife, she's hideous, and she's still out of Newts league (can't get over how dorky that name is). Imagine that. President Newt Gingrich. Might as well be President Dwight Shrute

Yes, that is Newt beside Shrute.

If Obama was a good person did it make him a good President?

I'm not sure, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Let's have all the politicians who've never cheated on their wives stand up. What? Everybody left the room? It's unfortunate, but true. There is something about the power men feel when they are in politics that transfers to their johnson. He's probably no better or worse than any of the rest of them...except that he's older and, I really think he's seen the light.

Personally, I wouldn't care if JR Ewing were running the country as long as he performed his duties well and was successful. I don't think we need the Pope right now but a shrewd, crafty old politician who's balanced the budget before.

Oh gimme a break the guy is still on the rampage when was a kiddo.

The guy is a turd that would sell feathers to a chcken

And selling feathers to a chicken is a bad thing no matter how you add it up.

If by "good person" you mean slimey, unethical, cheater, hypocrite, pervert scuzzball with the morals of a sewer rat...then yes, otherwise hell no.

Clinton was pretty good...

Thats a matter of opinion.

Clinton signed anti-2nd amendment legislation. Its also because of Clinton why companies were allowed to outsource left and right to china and other countries thus destroying a lot of American jobs.

One question for you........Is it POSSIBLE to have a good administrator/leader who isn't an overall "good person" as you've put it? Just curious.
Be careful now.......you might want to take a long look at history before you answer.

How do you really feel? haha

Everyone benefits from that outsourcing through lower prices. And, last I checked, the manufacturing sector is actually quite strong in this country, despite the constant rhetoric surrounding its decline. We make stuff that help people make stuff, which is the best stuff to make!

I do not think he is a "good" man, depending, of course,on a man's definition of "good".
But then, he is supposedly a "conservative", so being "good" is difficult.
An appropiate question, "has Newt the temperment to be President?"
Does any teabagger/conservative ??

No, I do not think he is a good person at all. But, I don't think he is an evil person either. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being evil and 10 being good, I'd rate him about a 2.5 or 3.

IMO, the ONLY reason he is so "honest" and forthcoming is because his transgressions over the years are so many, and so glaring, and so indisputable, that he has no choice but to try and be "honest" as a strategy of damage control.
