Loved ones first for me, end of story. I am a family member, then a Catholic, then an American, then a Louisianian(interchangeably dependent on whether either state/nation is living up to the social contract) then I am me. All are important to me in a large way so the pecking order is important.
Neither side in an argument can find the truth when both make an absolute claim on it.

If, on the other hand, it were one of the family members or dear friends who means anything at all to me, they're getting my undivided attention and consideration in a life-or-death scenario.
My family consists of my pets. So of course my pets come before a president or leader. Anyone related to me by birth? "You can't choose your family but you can choose your friends". I have a sign outside my door that says "Welcome to my home. If you are family, make an appointment first".

Agreed. I am surprised it is a question at all. Of coruse you will choose to save your family over anything. The president is replaceable after all.

Seeing that 98% of politicians don't care about me or my family anyways, the given is always family. This title is also really wierd for this thread.
"Rome is the mob. Conjure magic for them and they’ll be distracted. Take away their freedom and still they’ll roar. The beating heart of Rome is not the marble of the senate, it’s the sand of the coliseum. He’ll bring them death – and they will love him for it.” - Senator Gracchus (Gladiator)

The loved one, no question in my mind.
If you build a man a fire, he'll be warm for a day.

If you set a man on fire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

He understood that the dynamic would be protect the family first. My question is...do you choose the life of a loved one? Or the life of the President of whatever nation you belong?
My family is more important to me than the life of my president. A president can be replaced my loved one can't. I do not care if the president is someone I really like or someone I am indifferent to or do not like.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

You think that 2% of the politicians out there care about you? Are you insane?
