But it is, because the voting public has always had the power to vote the people who run the system out.

Look, you know you can find out what you need to, and you can exercise your vote, right? Regardless of any ad campaigns or media coverage or anything else?

    So can everyone else.

If they don't, there's no one else to blame.

Which is why we have the government we deserve. If we act as informed, involved citizens, then things change (I suppose according to the "better" of the majority). If we don't, then we're complicit.

I think he's likely to get a second term, and no it would not change my opinion of him. The number of terms he serves does nothing to take away from the fact that he's essentially a Bush clone.

You left off "other" as a voting option.

If he gets a second term, I'll still view him as an idiot. Being elected doesn't mean one is smart or doing a good job. It's just indicates that the voting public can be uninformed and easily suckered.

Or that they are choosing the better of two mediocre options.

When will a Republican enter the race that can beat him? Seriously, their best hope of beating him dropped out of the race today.

    Not necessarily.

It should be well known that the public doesn't vote based upon policies.... its a popularity contest of near-sainthood.

But he will most likely be a two-term President (barring something huge, like a terrorist attack or the SCOTUS striking down health care reform) and I'm at least interested to see where he goes from here, and to what lengths the GOP will go to be obstructionist.

I'm expecting the economy to pick up somewhat in the next year or two and with the Iraq war done, Obama will be in a more beneficial position to really do some Obama stuff.
The SCOTUS will probably, conveniently, delay any serious review of health care reform until after the election.
