Different people get different impressions, no?

To me, I automatically think "stingy." Like they don't have kids attending public schools, so why should they pay taxes for them. Or a dislike for most programs meant to benefit society as a whole.

At one time it did mean conserving spending of our tax dollars as a country. I might have respected the tea party, if they had a hissy fit during Bush's big spending spree.

I chose other, because I think resistant to change. Not necessarily traditional. I really do not think of the word in a political context. Marriage views, drug views, abortion views, gay views, energy views, etc. are the subjects that are resistant to change.
Drugs should all be legal, take big money out of the business.
Marriage is optional.
Abortion is an individual decision.
Gays are not genetic.
We waste at least 70% of all energy, we need to address that.
Those are my views and I think of myself as a conservative individual.

I think "has nice car and gets laid a lot", and unless that starts happening, I'm not going to be conservative any more.

Spiteful ignorance, in my experience, together with a fixed belief that minnows are sharks.

Selfish........

Conservative = Constitutionalist, traditionalist, small government capitalist, and critical thinker. Liberal = big government socialist, out of control spending, tax tax and more tax, nanny state marxist, makes decissions based on feelings not facts, weak on defense.

Is undoubtedly better with money, because they conserve it.
Usually cares about tradition, and traditional Christian values.
Doesn't want to be part of "the collective."

Haven't we played this game already?

I think "zombie". Most dislike or hate "vampires".

At least now I do.

Stick in the mud.

The first thing is traditional. Now, all of those belong on the list, but on face value, I hold, for instance, not much of ill feelings toward hierarchy or elitism.

I picked tradition, but really cautious is the adjective that comes first to mind.

good god - people are nasty.

"Conservative" means "restrained" or "controlled" to me - conserving energy or conserving food scraps . . . and I don't think that in regard to politics - It's a neutral word on first thought . . . it becomes political if it's in political context.

Likewise: my first thought about "Liberal" is "liberated" or "unrestrained"

Selfish? Sorry, I'm just being honest. The stereotypical conservative wants personal freedom but is authoritarian in many other respects. JMO.

Change my opinion!

Moderation or caution should have also been on the list, but then whoever started it wanted it slanted in a particular direction to attempt to drive home some strange concept...like brain washing...but that only works on weak liberals.

I really think in your case, after reading the above, that you should spell conservative with the letters "liberal".

1. Small government - until Wall Street needs a bailout then that whole "socialism" thing reappears
2. Anti-union
3. Pro-life but then declare they need "personal rights"
4. Deregulation ... because big business always does what's right for the small man
5. Anti-science (which is bad enough) then religious (which is worse)
6. Somewhat imperialist
7. Anti-homosexual
8. Somehow the wealth will "trickle down"
9. Hypocrisy

Wow! It did not take long for the liberals to become hysterical. Nothing new here.

Perhaps, but in terms of intellectual history, it worked rather well in covering the bases. Again, one has to take seriously the concept of elitism or hierarchy, and perhaps see some of its virtues in conservative thought. It wasn't always populism that ruled the gut impulses of conservatism.
