So in pursuit of your fictional government which would never exist on the level and in the way it did in that book, you seek to take my freedom and liberty.

Yes. Of course I don't think their model went quite far enough, but that's a personal issue.

Remember when you said that stupid people should be put down at the first sign of stupid? Are you willing to go adhere to your own policy?

Right after all of you who have ever voted for a Democrat.

Your own irrationalities are not proper reason to use government force against the rights and liberties of others.

On that we will have to disagree.

Well hopefully for yourself, you're bulletproof then.

Right after all of you who have ever voted for a Democrat.

I've never voted democrat

On that we will have to disagree.

On that I have license to shoot you should you actually try to take my rights. So with luck you just stick to internet tough guy crap and never make the attempt. It would be a poor life decision.

Commie countries are a perfect example of authoritarianism and unchecked government. With any form of extremely authoritative state, you'll always get something similar to the Commie countries. So commrad, go and run the experiment. Come back and tell us how much you actually enjoy slavery.

Not everyone who talks a particular talk is actually willing to walk the walk that goes with it. I think you're found an excellent example here.

Quod erat demonstrandum.

Good seeing you too Friday13....always good but these people on here already are starting to look like the people on PJ. Replying to comments with insulting rmearks that have zero continuity with what was originally written. Are people just combative by nature or is ignorance really guaranteed under the Constitution? Some real wing dings on this site.

You begin with a fallacious false premise. This is not a choice of one excluding the other.

I value both. And you need both. But I would not trade possible safety concerns for freedoms, which is what I think you are really asking. Being scared of what might happen isn't reason to lose freedoms.

Vague generalities lead to inaccurate assessments. In the very broad premise that is presented, if you are dead you have no freedoms, so safety is obviously more important. When looking at the two, there are tradeoffs that have to be made. You can certainly arrive at a position of mostly free and mostly safe where both are acceptable.

To clarify this, let's examine the legitimate purpose of government -- to protect people from the wrongdoings of other people.

Government should:
1. Protect us from foreign invaders.
2. Protect us from wrongdoers at home --the actions of any people who willfully do us bodily harm or harm to our property.

Government should NOT:
1. Protect individuals from themselves (safety mandates, etc.)
2. Protect us from acts of nature (storms, earthquakes, etc.). Private insurance can take care of these.
3. Meddle into business and personal lives.
4. Meddle into the affairs of other nations. (Illegitimate wars, foreign aid, etc.)
4. Impose excessive taxes.
5. Violate people's individual rights.

All rational & logical people understand that in a large & modern society, there has to be a good balance between freedom & safety.

If we just focus on freedom...than safety is ignored to the point of danger.

if we just focus on safety...than freedom is being curtailed to the point of being undemocratic.
