I don't even know what is sitting in wait behind him. Hard to say.

No. The military junta will still be in power.
I think the answer is no and based somewhere between both of these statements. We don't know what follows but I seriously doubt life will get better with the current power structure.

Something I heard was that China has much more influence over N. Korea than they're letting on, but they'd rather continue supporting N. Korea than have a unified Korea based in Seoul that is influenced more by the U.S. and/or Japan than by China.

So, no, things won't get better.

Press reports coming out of North Korea are that his third son, Kim Jong-un has succeeded the Supreme Leader. Jong-un received a Western education and is 28-years old. Not much is known about him. Whether he can weather internal power struggles or his reign is any more enlightened than his father's or grandfather's remains to be seen. Asian markets dropped because of the uncertainty how this will impact the region. Pyongyang is one area of the globe in which Western intelligence is sorely lacking, especially considering its nuclear capabilities. Time will tell whether or not new leadership will result in a more conciliatory approach toward the West.

Doubtful, the best we can probably hope for is a less cruel dictator. Very sad.

what they have now is a 20 something year old with a nuclear bomb

No life will not improve for the North Koreans. Those in power in that country are living high of the hog, they are not going to give that up.

There is a lot of uncertainity now. South Korean military is on high alert now. China has sent 2000 additional troops to its border with N. Korea to prevent the influx of refugees.

It's just one less mouth to feed. Their policies will remain, probably get even tougher since sonny-boy hasn't a clue about anything and he'll be running scared.

things will be worse diplomatically, i think.

Life in NK could only improve if the people were to gain any understanding of their situation.

it depends on who will govern them now...

What are you talking about!? That place is a socialist heaven!!! Its a workers paradise!

JK. Place is hell. And no one man will not change that system. Its a bureaucratic, military hell hole.

The guy was a figurehead. I am sure the military juanta will place his son at the alter or provide the peasantry with another personal Jesus of equal or greater value. And they will embrace it.

I hope so ... yet from all reports including (foreign and domestic) it sounds as though his heir is fully indoctrinated.
