Sure they serve a useful purpose. Their sites' monthly web hosting bill (and yearly domain name) is putting money back into our economy

To me, they serve three purposes:

1) They sequester all the idiots in one basket so they jerk each other off and leave the rest of us alone.
2) They show the rest of us an excellent example of what not to become.
3) A reminder that there are still ignorant people around.

Free speech is free speech is free speech is free speech.

This, this, this, and this. Sure, I disagree with racist groups immensely, but imagine, you guys, if government decided what we could or couldn't talk about?

I've checked some of them out just out of morbid curiosity. I know most people's first reaction is to wish that garbage didn't even exist, but perhaps they do at least serve one purpose. We might be inclined to think that because of civil rights successes, we've moved past racism. However, those web sites at least confirm that racism is alive and well. They at least remind us that racism still must be dealt with.

What do you think?

Theres web sites that prove theres all kinds of prejudice and indecencies exist and everything else.

I only concluded that racism still exists. I didn't say the majority of the country agreed with those sites.

Of course it exists: I didn't think one would need such websites to prove that.

I think the fact that you felt necessary to read up to confirm that it exists means it's becoming less common - all one needs to do is be at the right place at the right time to hear or see it in action.

And thus: getting rid of such websites wouldn't make it go away.

Of course racism still exists, but it isn't limited to white supremacist websites, there are plenty of black and hispanic racists out there too.

If only church websites did the same thing.

I agree. I've heard some people claim that racism is a white phenomenon, but I think that claim in itself is racist. Japanese soldiers were certainly racist against Koreans and Chinese during World War II. The were also racist against Caucasian and black Americans. I'm not sure how the reacted to Japanese Americans. Maybe they were baffled by their existence.

I've met Hispanics who were extremely bigoted toward Jews. I've never met a black racist, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

I am troubled that so many people voted that they agreed with the white supremacist web sites. I expected maybe one or two votes for them, but definitely not this many. So far none of them have spoken up in this thread, or perhaps they did, but were so inflammatory that they got deleted.

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are black racists. There are tons of them, people who consider people based on skin color.

And while I have no idea if it's true of the people who voted that way, I can look at that fourth option and see it as "I agree these people have a right to free speech". After all, it doesn't say "I am a white supremacist."

It does say, "I agree with the white supremacists." The last option was meant as an admission that someone supports white supremacy. If someone voted for that option thinking it meant only that they had free speech rights, he misinterpreted it.

I think Jesse Jackson has made some bad choices, but I don't see him as a racist. A racist is someone who regards other races as inferior. I don't think he does that. I haven't followed Al Sharpton all that much.

I did meet a Hispanic guy online who said that all of North America belongs to Mexico and that "all whites should go back to Europe and all blacks should go back to Africa." That was extremely racist.

Though it doesn't use those actual words, the phrase "I agree with the white supremacists ... " suggests an unhealthy affinity. The free speech option is in the preceding question.

I actually agree with a lot of the stuff white supremacists have to say. I just don't give a damn about white people.

they are not today's real problem. today's real problem are those that irrationally & illogically hate Muslim-Americans.

It is a interesting that over 1/3rd of those on this forum responding to the OP poll answer that they are white supremacists.
???

It is more like someone who is a member here contacted his supremacists buddies to come and vote since non registered people can vote in the polls. It could also be one idiot logging out and voting over and over, which is more likely.

You do know Muslim isn't a race, right?

I took a look at the admin logs. Jeremy Mitchel, the sole white supremacist on this thread seems to have gotten several of his white supremacist buddies to vote. They are the only ones who voted for that option, with the exception of one other regular poster.

They are not racists, they do not hate whites or other races. They are race baters, their is a difference.

You are living with denial then, lol.

Yep I figured.

Hell CC, you have seen this so many times before, lol.

is this supposed to be funny?

:lamo

It is funny because Muslims are people who practice Islam, and like other religious people are made up of many different races. Being a Muslim has nothing at all to do with race. People are bigoted against Muslims, not racist.

Usually happens in GM threads... though I found out who it was (a banned poster) and I told him I knew who he was... and he has stopped, since.

Doing something like this... gaming the poll... is a sure sign of weakness. One KNOWS that there position is either inferior, idiotic, or both, so the individual has to mess with the poll to give their position a false sense of legitimacy and to assist them with their weak ego. It's always been pathetic and always will be.
