Intolerance of poverty and oppression created "Western Civilization" which resulted from a unification of european cultures, philosophies, christian values, political and economical ideologies and genes, resulting in the creation of one unique society based on individuality, cooperation and a love of freedom which brought about the formation of a unique political/economical system of unprecedented wealth and opportunity for those who were a part of it.

No, that's tolerance.

No it's not. Tolerance is only a part of the equation.

This thread has become just as pointless and ridiculous as a debate about ideology. Nothing but conflicting definitions, leading nowhere anyway.

...and the thread nose dives into semantics....

Slavery, segregation, bigotry are wrong. They are intolerance.

So then the people who use that word that way are lying? The people answering the poll are lying too? and the people posting in this thread?

Fine whatever your right. I still maintain this is a ridiculous thing to argue over.

It is leading somewhere...

I've been re-thinking this and I believe being intolerant depends on what happened to the individual on the day they were intolerant about whatever it is. Tolerance has levels and after a while you can just "be over it". Everyone's felt that way, especially behind the wheel.

See, you're still not answering my question.

It's made know that intolerance is not 100% wrong or right.

And when you say it's wrong to be intolerant of homosexuality, you're biased.

Intolerant of homosexuals is a pure case of bigotry and/or homophobia.

And it is defended with "I can be against it but not a bigot". It is ridiculous.

Is it wrong to be incorrect?

Is it right to be justified?

Don't hate the game, hate the haters...

It's difficult to answer such general questions like this, especially when morality is a key factor.

I think people should be respectful of each other when it comes to sexual orientation, race, etc. There are still things which society should deem "intolerant," though. Namely actions that break the law, cause harm to others and things of that nature. The ubiquitous nature of the question is what makes it so difficult/impossible to come up with an absolute answer.

The poll doesn't require an absolute answer. Read the options.

By "The ubiquitous nature of the question," I meant what intolerance could mean in this poll.

Does it mean everything in society? (what I took it as, so I voted only some is wrong)
Or does it only apply to things like sexual orientation and race and other controversial topics that are already widely accepted? (in which case I would have voted yes)

Hopefully that makes more sense haha. I probably should have commented on this in my original post.

This is a simple question:

Is intolerance wrong?

The question arises because people have a tendency to connote intolerance with something negative.

Most people are intolerant. They're intolerant of independence and demand that you pay into their collective just because they're obnoxious and have loud voices.

Most of these people claim they're tolerant of stupid things that aren't really important. The real problem is people are emotionally judgmental.

Hypocrites the lot of'em, but they love being called that.

Who knows.

everything is circumstantial in this case.
Yes intolerance can be very wrong, bigoted, selfish, ignorant, anti-freedom, anti-equality and anti-american.

But intolerance to other things could just be common sense such as rape?

There is no yes/no answer thats why I picked SOME intolerance is wrong.

Ask me specifically what you have in mind and Ill tell you my opinion or facts why it is or isnt.

Poll: Is Intolerance Wrong?

answer: Only if you can't tolerate it.
