Boys Swimming on Girls Teams Find Success, Then Draw Jeers

Where are the lines drawn for double standards? If it's ok for females to wrestle and play football with males, why can't males swim with females?

It’s really frustrating to see how athletic directors and school administrators aren’t doing anything,” she said. “They really aren’t advocating for us. I understand there isn’t an opportunity for these boys, but it infuriates me that they can’t combine two schools’ boys to create one team or have them compete in separate heats. The way it is now, the boys are taking recognition away from girls who have worked hard and deserve it.”
With every stroke they take, the boys are displacing more than water. They could knock girls off the awards podium and make it harder for girls to qualify for All-Star honors and the postseason. Perhaps predictably, they also are altering the dynamic on the pool deck, with swimmers lining up to cheer not just for their teams but for their gender
Cooler heads are not found in the bleachers. At the Bay State conference meet earlier this month, Hooper’s father, Eric, lost his composure after watching her get beaten by boys. While waiting for her after the race, he said to her male competitors, “Good job for beating the girls.”

Yeah - I'm siding with her. . . when you're in a sport that measures your personal abilities against other people's abilities - this just gives the boys a cutting edge that girls will never be able to beat purely based on their natural physical strength.

It's not like football, wrestling or soccer where the nature of gender is less of a factor.

god forbid we actually admit that men, generally speaking, are physically stronger and faster than women. everybody's got to be "equal"

This has been all over the news around here (MA) for about a week now. It's utterly INSANE. I'm not a big fan of girls competing on boy's teams, but I understand that our society now demands that girls be allowed to do so. Personally, I think those girls deserve whatever abuse they get in doing so, but that's a separate issue. On the other hand, the idea that a GUY would even WANT to compete on a woman's team is utterly disgusting to me. Here in the Northeast there are YMCA swimming teams, and plenty of other opportunities (including the idea of merging schools to get enough boys for a team) for these boys to compete if they so desire. They do not need to debase themselves and disrupt the whole system like this.

The strongest woman may be stronger than the weakest man though. So let the compete and see. You're not afraid being beaten by a girl, are you?

You better not ever show up to any kind of athletic event involving my kids.

In wrestling and soccer I'd agree; but Football is the one place where I have had the opportunity to see a female high school athlete compete with the boys, and it was not pleasant for her. My Junior year in high school we scrimmaged against another local school that had a young lady playing Offensive Tackle. She had long hair, was wearing makeup, and let's just say that her uniform/pads did little to hide her "upper body assets". The boys playing defensive line in the first half of that game took great delight in abusing her (even I'll admit it was a bit over the top). They were grabbing her hair as they went past her on rushes. They were making sure that their hands found certain "assets" when engaged on blocks by her. At halftime she QUIT because of the abuse.

I just await the cries from the hypocrites.

when it's a girl wanting to compete on a boys team,, they are all squealing about equal rights and how it's not fair to keep a girl off the team. but when it's a guy wanting to compete on a girls team..equal rights seem to go right out the window and we hear the squeals of how it's not fair because the boys are bigger and stronger than the girls.

If you are going to champion the cause of equality and scream that girls be allowed on boy's teams, then you need to STFU when the tables get turned and some guy wants to play on the girl's team

same here. when I was in HS, one of our local rivals had a girl that played on their football team. she was a "big" girl about 5'8" 170 pounds she did not start and the only time she got on the field was on punts and after they were so far behind that the coach played everyone.
