    Cool Set up a state?

At the end of the 18c there were approximately 300 sovereign states in Germany.
Since then we have seen large consolidation of power worldwide.

Would you set up your own independent state, if you have the chance politically, territorially and financially?

OK, so it could be a group of people, a party.
Aren't the Amish something like that?

i wouldn't mind having a nice big ranch someday. until then, i will work to improve my own state. there's always the option of moving to one that more closely resembles my own views, if it ends up bothering me enough. of course, that requires money, as well.

It's entirely possible. Find a convenient seamount in international waters and start building.

    No - it's difficult and they're less likely to thrive . . . as what happened with Germany's 300.

You would need permission from whatever state you wanted to have a chunk of and I doubt any state would be willing to give up land. Plus there are only a handful of people who could afford to run their own state.

    Re: Set up a state?

I think my views are too broad to recruit enough supporters/logical dissidents to create a democratically run state.
I also have no desire to lead and/or take part in the arduous task of creating and implementing a government system, but my control issues wouldn't allow me to hand that task off, either.
I'm not nearly discontent enough with my current city/state/country to think that my only or best option is the creation of a new state.
I have no interest in being entirely defenseless against countries, regimes, or criminals who see value in my state and would seek a take-over.
I have no interest in paying high tariffs on items I cannot produce within my borders.

So no...probably wouldn't create my own state.

I would probably start by setting up a cult in a compound. Or maybe a commune. ity.
