everyone is greedy by definition.
whether you took that last piece of chicken even though you had enough or you are ripping people off to get money!

there is not a person alive that can say they have not been a little greedy b4!

the moral dilemma is trying to draw that line at what point greed becomes excessive and i think for every person it will be different.

the founders of this country gave us the right and option to be as greedy as we want. god gives us the moral understanding to know when we are being to greedy.

there is no problem with someone being well off because they made good choices in life. it does not make them greedy because they have more than you because you did not make as good of choices as them.
its no different then someone who was given wealth.

you must determine what you can live with and with out and no one can make that choice for you!

This poll is ridiculous, greed is an human emotion not an ideology. No matter the method to stop it, greed will always be apart of being human. Once an Government starts trying to control basic human emotion it is all downhill from there.

It is just naive to even theorize that a system can make someone greedy. We are for the most part adults, while we mature we learn to control our emotions. If a person is too greedy, they made the choice to be greedy. They were not conditioned to be greedy. The entire accusation that Capitalism somehow by design makes people greedy is flawed. If Capitalism did make people greedy by design then no one would care about hurting anyone else. I do not know about other areas but in my area people care about other peoples welfare.

I liked that post, but have a minor disagreement. I have observed that people go about making their living and begin to succeed and acquire wealth and at this point many, though not all, are suddenly greedy and selfish. They want everything and think for some reason they deserve everything. I don't know the psychology but have seen this many times.

Personality disorders develop for various reason dependent on many variables. Without proper medical study of the people that you have observed it would be assumptive to lay blame on success for greed, when greed is a symptom in most cases of an underlying problem.

People also accuse people of being greedy to explain why other people can be insensitive to other peoples needs and wants. In politics the word greed is used to slander the opposition. Greed is the mantra not only of the Left but of the Right. Many on the Left accuse the wealthy of being greedy and blame their insatiable greed for all of the woes that exist in society. Contrasted by the Right that accuse people who use entitlements of being greedy as well. Both sides make the mistake of putting the blame on human instinct rather than making an tangible argument against the policies that they are denouncing as ineffective.

The assertion that policies create greed among those governed by those policies is a dangerous accusation. The danger is that it implies that those policies are not only ineffective but evil or at least so bad that they must be eliminated to save the people from themselves. Obviously then the accusation of greed is a political ploy rather than rational explanation of the circumstances. The accusation also puts both sides in a catch 22 situation, if we accept that one causes greed than we must accept that the other does as well. Which means that all sides are wrong.

There is no system that can stop people from becoming greedy. Karl Marx failed miserably at stopping greed. His philosophies not only were unable to address greed but created a system that can flourish under greed. Sure one can claim that the examples are a perverted versions of his theories. But than many of the failings of American Government is perverted as well. Certainly corruption is a perversion of the rule not the norm. Which even further disproves that greed is systematic of Capitalism. One could postulate that greed (politically speaking) is the fruit of corruption not architectural design. Simplified one could just say: blame the bad people for the pervasive exploitation of liberty.

Greed cannot be eliminated without the destruction of liberty. But those that break the law can be punished. That is the purpose of Governments and laws to facilitate justice, not just to uphold rights but to provide a structure for justice.

When someone wants to keep their money, that's greed. When you take it away from them, that's compassion.

Taking people's money is double-plus good.
