Because some people take their vote seriously and will not vote for someone they don't agree with or don't think would be good for the country simply because he's the best of the likely options. Your vote is essentially your endorsement of someone, and to some people that is a serious enough thing that they don't give it away based on "defacto" reasons.

    2. Simply not voting would confirm Obama for another term by default, so that is a fools errand.
The above answer I gave her could apply. Additionally, some people don't take a 4 year view point of the US at all times. Continue to vote for a ****ty Republican/Democratic candidate simply because they're not as bad as the other guy and you garauntee you'll likely continue to get ****ty candidates. Not voting may bring about some short term pain, but with the hope that in the long term it leads to better results.

    3. Third party voting only worked once in this country for president. It won't do anything other than assure Obama another term in office and I can't see any thinking individual willing to put up with that.
Ah, my mistake with my first two answers, I thought this was going to be a reasonable discussion and not a "if you don't think exactly what I do you must be an idiot" type of rhetorical blabberfest. My bad.

I really can't give a meaningful answer to this poll until I know who the GOP nominee is. There are a couple in the mix that I would likely vote for over Obama, but they are not currently doing well in polling.

So just go ahead and vote for Obama and be happy...for as long as you can. As for the idiot thing...as you wish, be my guest.

Re: If the election was today who would you vote for

The 2012 election is between Barack Obama and whomever the Republicans nominate. Those are the only two choices voters have. Anyone who votes third party or doesn't vote at all is essentially casting a vote for which of the two major party nominees he likes the least. You may not like the game, but those are the "rules" and that's what we're stuck playing with. Primary elections are the place for "making a statement". December through October is the time to build a viable alternative to the Democratic or Republican party. But come November, 2012 one of two men will win the election. Like it or not, that's the only choice before the voters next year: Obama or the Republican nominee.

As disappointed as I would be with a number of the Republican candidates, as distasteful as I might find some of them, I will be voting for whomever wins the nomination. Any of the eight candidates - Bachmann, Cain, Huntsman, Gingrich, Paul, Perry, Romney, Santorum - would make a better president than Barack Hussein Obama and, as uncomfortable a truth as it may be to ideologues, this nation is either doomed to four more years of Obama or one of the eight individuals on stage at the Republican debates these days. That's the only option available to the country next November.

    America, the choice is yours.

Why would I vote for Obama? I don't endorse him, nor support him being President, so I wouldn't bother putting a vote for him.

I would not vote. I am sick of politicians and political drama.

I don't believe it. The real Zyphlin never writes only a sentence.

And on topic: Depends on who the GOP member is.
