I am not really sure if I care one way of the other if they shut down Wall Street. It would be interesting to see what would happen if they did.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I will say that planning a street carnival is rather apt, given that the whole movement is starting to come off as a giant circus.

Maybe. But that wouldn't be my first guess. My suspicion is that there would/will be more reaction/outrage from those New Yorkers who see a group of radical outsiders interrupting the flows of the city.

Civil Disobedience can be a good/useful tool. Disruption of society just for the sake of chaos is simply a bunch of idiots acting like idiots.

I don't see how anyone can support OWS. I can understand standing up against corporate greed and corporate involvement in government... But acting like children and throwing a tantrum isn't the way to stand up for those ideals.

I heard about these plans only today and I'm curious who thinks planning to "shut down Wall Street" is a good idea? I don't. I think it'll only make their movement look bad. They're obviously looking to provoke a reaction. That's my opinion, what do you think? Do you support this idea?
We'll see if it's possible and what their commitment to their protest is.

That's exactly the goal of many of them. They want to collapse the system.

Who cares? In two months they've been unsuccessful in forming any kind of cohesive organization with a clear unwavering message. First thing, they picked a stupid name. Should've given it more thought. Anyhow, they've become irrelevant.

OWS is still getting an amount of coverage around the country. But for the most part it seems to be more focused on the novel or the negative. And winter weather is not going to be in their favor.

Really think there was some positive message that could have come out of the early activity. But also believe there was an element of the original organizers whose main interest was in just old fashion "Late '60s chaos". Which has a short shelf life.....

I'm starting to think that the only way for OWS to "win" support is for them to call themselves Branch Davidians and start killing cops and DEA agents. Maybe that will get them the support of Conservative hacks.

Their original outrage was misplaced. I think that's what most Conservatives see. Banks are boogy-men? Wall Streeters are boogy-men? Hardly. They operate within the law. It is the job of Congress to even the playing field...it's their job to pass rules and regulations that prevent the abuse we've seen. It's their job to investigate the abuses that have occurred. Rallying your cause around $5/month fees for this/that bank services and Wall Street greed is ridiculous. Hard for conservatives to support an attack on capitalism. Congress!! Get your heads out of your butts and do something!
