Should we tweak the Halloween schedule?

Some places already do. They move it to the last Friday or Saturday in October to avoid it being on a school/work night. Should we do that everywhere, or leave it as October 31st?

Well, Halloween isn't, as far as I know, a holiday in any official sense. That is businesses and public buildings are obliged to remain open during it.

Because of this, I think people will just do what they want when they want. I don't think it's something that's really worth legislating.

Letting places decide on their own is probably the "correct" answer, but I'd prefer that everybody be on the same schedule. It's just easier to plan around that way. I think there's a lot of logic to making it the last Saturday in October, instead of keeping it always October 31st.

Agreed. I wouldn't legislate it, but I do think it could become ingrained enough that everybody just does it anyway. Technically, October 31st isn't mandatory, either.

I doubt the Catholics would be amenable to changing All-Hallow's Eve/All Saints' Day, and the Pagans would probably ignore any official decrees moving Samhain.

The 31st works regardless if its a week end or week day. Unless you are trying to get your kid to get a garbage sack size bag of candy, then there is no reason for the child to be out late trick or treating.

I do not know about your family but in my family the kids do not start trick or treating until night time.Usually a couple of adults or an adult and older sibling will take the kids to a rich neighborhood trick or treating. One adult or even a older sibling walks with the kids and the other adult drives the car.The adult(or older sibling) walks the kids for several blocks and by then the kids have plastic trick or treating jack-o-lanterns or a plastic grocery store back is filled with candy and that is enough. The kids do not need a whole grocery store shelf's worth of candy.

they have begun dictating the hours or trick-or-treating in most areas. the kids have to stop at 8 in my area, which i think is stupid. nobody wants to trick-or-treat in the daylight at like 6 pm.

I took my kids trick or treating around the neighborhood yesterday at around 4. The stores at a nearby shopping center were handing out candy from 3-5, so I just went after that. Of course, my kids are 2 and 3. They got small bags of candy and are getting it rationed to them.

Who is in charge of halloween? Maybe you should speak to them, the authority.

I believe BLZeebub is in charge of Halloween. He posts here from time to emit.

From what I have sen the only places that have changed the date is do to weather conditions and there is nothing wrong with that because kids don't get the politics that some try to apply to these changes.

It's about the kids having fun for a night of being goofy nothing more.
