Re: How many hours do you work a week?

I worked 50-65 hours a week for about 12 years. Almost always at least one weekend day. Many late nights, sometimes all the way through early mornings. Was essentially on call all that time. No on-call pay of course. Last few years however I work about 35 hours a week. That will drop over the next few years. Whether it hits zero or not, I'm not decided.

I would not work that much if it was a dead-end job and it was salaried. I would prefer to work two and get paid, or work something with a future and call it an investment. (I did the latter).

How do you "have it" so good, is the obvious question. Do tell.

My salaried hours account for 40 hours, as a teacher I get to take paperwork home like most other teachers and do assessments, marking, checking on the teachers I manage on top of filling in paperwork. This year, I'm also studying a post graduate update teaching qualification that takes 2 years part time and I'm also starting two businesses from scratch. One self manages (I am a landlord but I still have accounts etc) and I'm setting up a website for the other business which I see as my long term future.

As a result I'm now on this forum about once a week if that, usually just surfing or listening to the music posted on the "What are you listening to?" threads. I have no time for debate anymore - I just don't have the head-space to get involved properly in a debate. I still like the forum and am not going anywhere else fast.

All self chosen so I am not complaining. As for my politics - I'm not American but I do feel here in the UK the argument that ordinary people are getting fed up paying for banker's mistakes and propping up the banks here has some merit. Our banks have taken a lot of taxpayer money and as a small business I find the banks unwillingness to lend to small business here in the UK very hard to swallow.

I think the "occupy" protest is a general protest that is losing its way - if it focussed better on real issues (such as the banks stifling lending and support for industry) then more people here in the UK would support the movement.

    So, 64 hours per week.
How can that be? 8 hours a day times 6 days a week is only 48 hours a week. Not 64.

    I work ~ 38-39 hours a week.

My employer avoids overtime if at all possible.

Re: How many hours do you work a week?

This time of year I work 40 hours a week. I leave home around 7:15AM, and return home around 5:15PM. My work hours are 8-4:30 with an unpaid half hour lunch. My work is seasonal, from basically January - April I work extended hours. It varies year to year just how many hours. I'll go with say 50 average during that time period, though I have done a month of 70 hour weeks when it was needed. Nice paychecks those were.
