If so, on what?

I know I am voting to repeal Ohio's law banning collective bargaining for public employees....I do need to study up on the ballot, though. I hear there are a lot of levies and other stuff. I'd link a copy of my sample ballot here, but Ohio counties and cities have ballot issues as well...and likely this is also true where you are, too. So instead, I urge you to Google for your sample ballot and study on your issues.

So, without a major issue or race involved, and without a hectic media blitz to annoy us all, will you be voting next week?

IMO, these "minor" elections may be even more important to our daily lives than the big presidential elections, as I believe what Tip O'Neil said:

"All politics is local."

Before you decide it ain't worth your time on November 8th, please remember....MANY people have fought for and even died for your right to vote.

DC doesn't have any elections in odd numbered years. But if it did, I would be voting.

I've never voted so often before in my life, Paschendale. I swear there's another one here in Cleveland at least every six months.

It's weird.

I do not know.....
Moving has been a nightmare.. I own properly in both York Haven and Goldsboro....so how does this affect things ??
We need a to of reform here.
No one should be able to "buy" an elected position as is the case today.
And why are we asked to vote for judges ??? We do not know the first thing about them , even when they do communicate...
Voting is such a sham !

If I lived in Ohio I would.

I suspect that the tea bagging conservatives fear a vote this November....note that no con has replied thus far....

I've only votyed in 1 elections since the presidential election... not because i didn't want to though.. but because i've moved around a lot lately( internationally and domestically) ... before that, i rarely missed an election...

I gain Texas residency in 1 more month... yay me, I can finally register here.... time to bring some libertarianism to big government republicans home turf.

First let me say I always vote, every election no matter how trivial right up to president....

Kasich was one of my favorite congressman at one time. I found him to be intelligent, for all appearances honest and mostly because he was fairminded and reasonable.
He like many others have turned into raging right winger via the influence of the teaparty last nov....I have lost all respect for him...and apparently so has the majority of Ohioans his poll numbers are in the 20s

No votes here in Texas, unless you count my HOA...and yes I'm voting out our HOA leaders. They'll just tell us they won again, but everyone knows different.

I vote in almost all elections. One minor election I forgot about many years ago, but it was something really minor and insignificant. The first election right after I move here (a new state) I purposely did not vote. I was new and really didn't know the local issues or people and felt that any vote of mine would not have been informed. It was only local city and county stuff, nothing state or national.

Voting in Nov due to my support of SPLOST and ESPLOST which are sales taxes in support of education and infrastructure.

I'm struggling with this one a bit. I almost always vote, but this year, I'm still living in Ohio for the election, but will be moving to Michigan less than a month afterwards. I feel like it's slightly unethical to vote for things that I won't have to deal with personally. I'm going to have to think on it some.

I think you'd be ok. Your situation is the opposite from what I mentioned of mine above. You are leaving before the election.

This is just my opinion, but as long as you feel informed of the people and/or issues, then you should have no qualms regarding voting. Plus, if there are multiple people and/or issues, nothing says you have to vote for every single one. You could vote on the ones important to you as a matter of principle and leave the others blank. I've done that before. I almost never vote for or against judges simply because I don't know who these people are.

Fantastic and I hope you folks win that one big Big BIG.

Here we have a tea party attempt to take over the local school board so I will be voting also to try to stop such insanity. Outside of that, not much else going on here.

There are three issues on the local ballot this time around in NoCo. A <1% tax increase that will support local school districts (voting yes), replaceing a .475% tax with a .3% tax (it's different somehow and increases money somehow through a local tax procedure that I don't understand) to increase public saftey funds for police, jails and community crime prevention programs (voting yes). The "big" issuse is a referendum to ban all Medical Marijuana Dispensaires (MMD) in the city limits (voting NO).

There are some school board memebers up for election, but I don't know enough about the school district issue to really vote on it, and as far as I know there are no far-right creationists trying to take over thwe board, so I didn't feel compelled to vote in that.

Already voted, we have vote by mail in Oregon. :) Primary election to replace disgraced Rep. David Wu. 1[SUP]st[/SUP] District.

Welcome to Texas

thanks!

.. unfortunately, the Williamson County Sherriffs Dept already welcomed me on my 3rd day here... by busting me for Public Intoxication ( walked home drunk from the bar)... to say the least, I was not enamored with my welcoming committee.

Meh, normally I only vote in presidential elections. And it's doubtful that I'll even do that, this time around. The chance that I'm going to cast the deciding vote is miniscule, so it's a waste of my time.

Voting is not a "shame"; ask any American over 50. Voting is a privilege and a civic duty. IMO, it is the bare minimum any patriot owes his country and community.

This is a selfish, foolish and short-sighted POV, IMO. I cannot believe anyone finds the time to bitch and blither on and on on a political message board on the fukkin' web, but yet will not do even as little as VOTE.

Major loss of respect here, Kandahar. Please reconsider.

No. It's a rational calculation of the costs/benefits.

Costs: 30 minutes or so of my time.
Benefits: None.

I cannot believe anyone finds the time to bitch and blither on and on on a political message board on the fukkin' web,

That is a better way of effecting political change, it's a better way of evaluating where I stand on the issues, and it's more fun.

but yet will not do even as little as VOTE.

I can't believe that anyone has time to waste by bitching and blithering at the ballot box, but won't even do as little as get informed on the issues and discuss them with other informed people on a political message board.

Major loss of respect here, Kandahar. Please reconsider.

Your self-righteousness is not economically rational...assuming your goal is to influence the outcome of the election. On the other hand, if your goal of voting is to get a warm and fuzzy feeling in your heart, that's a different matter entirely and I can totally understand that rationale for voting (it's why I usually vote in presidential elections). But in terms of actually changing the outcome of elections, voting is a total waste of time. There are far better ways to get politically involved, and voting offers a terrible return on investment in terms of the political results. Especially if, like me, you live somewhere where the outcome of elections is never in doubt in the first place.

Don't vote. Play the lottery instead. - Slate Magazine
