Nope, I know of a group that sterilised people on the basis of ethnicity, physical appearance or criminal action though.

I am not a fan of Peta. However, PETA is a red herring in so far as this particular subject goes. Its like arguing that since radical environment groups are against pollution, it should be ok to dump oil in a creek because those groups are nuts. Even if PETA never existed, it would not change the fact that unlike the vast majority of animals, Dolphins, Orangutans, Elephants, Chimps, and Bonobos, are self aware. Your dog is not truely self aware, neither is your cat. However, those animals, just like the human animal, are. Moreover, all those animals pass learned knowledge to their peers and offspring. All of those animals have primitive cultures that change over time. All of those animals morn their dead. All of those animals are capable of empathy and have primitive notions of right and wrong in terms of injuring others.

I don't know if they should be granted person-hood or not as that is purely a human construct anyway. However, its immoral to treat any animals that have those traits as "property".

Nope, I don't think so Thunder. Spud mentioned sterilization, and you, Thunder, Godwinned this thread by bringing up NAZI's. You see, when you Godwin a thread, you refer to NAZIs. And, apparently, Godwinning is bad form in debate.

It's doubtful that derailing a thread with ridiculous epithets NAZIs is against the rules.
 
Do not expect a better treatment for animals since:

1. animal food is basic food for our race.
2. and 2-3 days we reach 7 miliard of population
3. many animals are becoming a race to extinction

Instead of thinking if animals should have rights or not, we should think how to treat them for our own final benefit which is eating.

Human race is expanding and animal race (the ones we eat) is about to disappear.

I would never treat an animal like some people do. But that have to do with my behaviour and kind of character.
I'm very sensitive to the way some animals are killed but when i am in a restorante and my plate is coming, all i care on those moments is the smell and the taste.

That's what we eat daily. Come a time when it does not impress anymore.


The behaviour with animals will never change, i see it too hard.
At 1st ages of our race animals were consider like the tool to survive. We are at 2011 AD and animals have still the same status.

We can't give anything special to an animal. What is needed for them, they got from "mother nature".

The whale will always eat the fish
The eagle will always eat the snake and rabbit
The human will always eat the animal ------ these are the rules of nature
