As of Saturday, all my money is with the local branch of the American Federation of Musicians Credit Union. Goodbye Wells Fargo.

Ummm... so.... it's okay for a handful of banks to crash the world economy and make a run on Our treasury to bail their asses out? When a business fails... it should FAIL. Anything else is anti-competitive and anathema to a free market. Would it be painful? Hell yes. But I can bet you we wouldn't see anymore "too big to fail" businesses and corporate protectionism.

So if they send the world into chaos by trading in non-real assets, that's okay...

Plain and simple... these businesses are failing the American people... a free people. If they no longer have the trust of the people they should not be extorted and blackmailed into accepting any of the banks practices, fees and the like simply because if we don't go along, THEY will crash the economy. It's anti-competitive and protectionist. And that is not a free market, not is it any flavor of acceptable American capitalism. If your business employs bad practices and policies... it will and should fail.

Honestly, if you're still with a big bank, you're an idiot.

Have you seen their rates compared to smaller internet banks and credit unions? Politics aside, there's really no reason to be with a big bank unless you have a large actively managed brokerage account with them considering their poor rates on consumer products and high fees.

Bank of America savings is offering:

    A money market account with $2.5 MILLION - 0.40%
ING Direct Online - No fees, No Minimum - 1%

Really. Why bother with a big bank?

Actually if we had a decentralized private bank system made of many small regional banks and credit unions, we wouldn't have the mess we had in 2009. A very fragmented system basically spreads the risk around in a way that severely reduced the domino affect of a single bank going. The big bank system basically consolidates risk by centralizing huge amounts of exposure in a few large firms that if, they go bring everyone else down as well. Essentially crashing the system to replace it with lots of small banks would put us back on the path to financial security. Bigger isn't always better.

There are many reasons why someone would be with a big bank and not know to avoid it. Maybe it just doesn't occur to them. Who cares? People are noticing now and that's what matters most. Better late than never, right?

If enough people dump them and show their disdain for being robbed by them with ridiculous fees...then they will change it....HEY YO big banks...we dont want to feed your quest for disgusting bloated profits anymore at our expense.
But look out for the big banks to "PAY" the teaparty types to go after credit unions again..

I'm not a fan of the big banks, but they are in business to make money.
When they offered free checking, they did it as a loss leader for most people.

Now that they can't make up some of the loss through the debit transaction system, they're charging a nominal fee for securing your money.
Damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Would you rather them take another bail out, because they continued to offer "free" checking, when they could no longer afford it?
I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.

I have no intention of moving away from my bank. I'm fairly happy with it.
