    I think it would be a good idea to establish some self sustaining colonies on other planets before we start messing around with real AI. Just in case.
    For: legalizing drugs, gay marriage, abortion, guns, universal health care, public sector jobs, nuclear power, free education, progressive taxation
    Against: corporations, make-work, the 40 hour work week, intellectual property, imperialism, "homeland security," censorship

    Here's what I had in mind. Currently, computer-based translators of human language like Google Translate are clunky and can only do a rough job, sometimes with humorous results. If a computer had humanlike intelligence, it would be able to understand human language like a human and do a much better job with translation.

    Humans are also quite frail for space travel. To travel to the next star system, Alpha Centauri, we would have to find a way for humans to survive with multi generations for a trip that lasted hundreds of years. Androids could be much more capable of making the trip. If we had humanlike androids who were much like we are, they could the the first "humans" to make contact with other intelligent life and then transmit their findings back to us.
