3. I said, in my first monologue about childrearing, that all children are different and that some do not require very many or any spankings, while others do.

Maybe so, my sister and I provided comradery.

There it is, the crack at me, the young-an. Didn't think you would sink that low. I honestly thought you had better respect for me than that.

I LIKE you. You've got the chutzpah to get on here and throw your ideas out there to be discussed and criticized; that takes a certain nerve. I've seen you admit when you were wrong - I respect that, it's classy.

that doesn't mean that I'm not going to point out what I consider the fatal flaw in your position: a lack of experience.

I actually tried it until my son was 3. It was a disaster. He was immune to simple verbal correction, stone deaf to scoldings, fought time-outs like Mike Tyson and took loss-of-privileges or being ignored for bad behavior as an excuse to trash the house. He was a horrific brat at 3 1/2.... then I started whuppin' that ass... and by the time he was 5 he was a different kid, and a happier one.

that was our precise experience as well. talking to the kid was useless, put him in his room and he just goes into a temper tantrum and starts destroying things. It ended the day that mom tried to pick him up and put him in time out. he turned around and punched her in the face.

me and him went back to the bathroom (this was in a public place). he learned that hitting his momma is a very poor decision. he has not (purposefully, mind you) hit his mother since.

since we worked spanking in, he's a better behaved and happier kid. we laugh about it, some days, he apparently is just plain going to be a butt and act out until he does something that get's him popped.... and then, he's the happiest kid in the world, plays well with his little brother, is more polite...

Bill Cosby (who, as I recall, has raised five children) had it right all those years ago. :)

BTW, Jyran, you should know since you are so worried about credentials that his wife is a child psychologist :)

Thing is, when done right it works. The two main things are consistency, and showing them twice as much love as you do discipline. But if the discipline just isn't there or isn't working, you get a brat.

It doesn't take a PhD to realize this, just two eyes and a brain and a little experience in the world.

truff. with two 'f's.

Then can I say your fatal flaw is a lack in philosophy?

You can say it if you wish. I don't know how you can prove it. I've read books on psychology and child-rearing.

You know what a book is? Someone's thoughts on something, put into print. You know why it got published? The publishing company thought it would make money. This doesn't always mean the person really knows what they're talking about. :)

It certainly doesn't mean they automatically know more than I do, anymore than having "PhD" in front of their name does. It means someone thought their words would make money.

As for philosophy, my philosophy is Christianity. I taught my son the Gospel and the Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule and "love thy neighbor as thy self." I demonstrated self-sacrificing love for him in everyday life from his babyhood to this day.

Oddly enough it all seems to be working just fine. :)

Lets think capitalism (free-enterprise), lets also think buying/reading respectable author's books.

I could have a field day with you sir, if you are acceptable to an open mind and are willing to question beliefs.

Well some people refuse to respect author's books.

Oh and don't question beliefs, go to the Philosophy section. It's the only place questioning of religion is allowed. You'll get thread-banned. I've got the scars to prove it.

Kk, thanks.

Not sure what your point is. You think I'd spend good money for books by hack authors?

I'm sure you think you could. Many have tried to trash my beliefs, I'm still here and I'm still a Christian. Contrariwise, I've converted more than one agnostic to Christianity.

This isn't really the right venue for a general discussion on that topic, though.

I agree, to the philosophy threads!?

1. Spank, not beat.
2. That's one example, and we have only your word for it. :)

Beatings work too, I got punished in some interesting ways.

Where several of the boards', um, "outspoken" atheists would just love a chance to dogpile me and post 10 rebuttals to everything I say, drowning me out with volume and strident mockery no matter how well I speak.

Oddly enough that doesn't sound like much fun, or a very good use of my time. I'm a busy single parent and working man, and I've already spent more time on DP this evening than I can afford to.

OTOH If you'd like to exchange PMs on the subject of Christianity instead, I'd be glad to have a private discussion with you about it.

Maybe the difference is I was born/raised liberal and you were born/raised conservative. :)

 i don't really know what effect that had on them; the woman in question is generally conservative (at least, she is now), she just doesn't make good life choices, personally. single mom the whole way - now her 16 year old daughter is a single mom as well, etc. :(

that's why I don't go there either. too many monkeys who only want to throw poo for respectful, reasonable people to discuss. which is a pity, because I love to talk about my faith, but, there you are.

:) if ya'll really want to start a PM session on it, I'd love to be included.

Had a strange dream last night that Home Depot was having a sale on miniguns. There was a floor model called the "Yellow Jacket" which was painted bright yellow with black detailing and sold for $250.00 (quite a deal).

What does this mean?

Sounds like your subconscious is telling you to buy a new range toy.

Love cold war relics and they're reasonably affordable.

Next time you have this dream, pick me up one would you?

Question for the experts:

If you dip your bullet slugs in Paraffin wax, will they penetrate a Kevlar vest?

$250 is about 10 seconds worth of ammo ought of mingun

if they couldn't before they won't after. parafin will burn off the bullet going down the barrel and most lead bullets are lubed with wax prior to loading. One of the reasons why "Open" class IPSC shooters don't shoot lead bullets is that the lube creates smoke and the smoke buggers up the lens on the optic sights most of them use

NOt a full auto I assume but a semi auto replica. If the stock actually works then you would need a "short barrel rifle" tax stamp for it though. If it was full auto you'd be paying at least 12K for it

Semi auto, closed bolt.
The stock is unmovable, so it's technically a pistol.
The receiver should be new, since all the original ppsh's were smg's.
