Any gun is dangerous (well, maybe except the Ross rifle, but that's dangerous to the shooter! ), but the M16, in selective-fire, is not as dangerous as MaggieD stated it.

In addition, I can understand your position, Maggie, but trying to store a gun unassembled is like trying to store a huge, complicated, piece of machinery unsassembled. Unrealistic and too inconvenient

Discussion through the thread seems to indicate mass murder on a small scale is okay. The Dirty Harry's draw the line at mortars and VX gas. I'm mean... that would be crazy to sell those arms to general public, right??

But owning a machine designed to wipe out an entire school cafeteria is what the founders intended.

Ever fired an automatic weapon? They are pretty hard to control and therefor very bad for shooting up anything. A legal semi-automatic would be better.

I admire your persistence but there's no point in trying to change some people's minds... or even get them to discuss something in a reasonable manner.

It may not change his mind but someone else who is reading this might at least think about it. Plus I mostly come to this site because I have nothing else to do.

Well, you can't ignore his idea. It does have merit.

It's hyperbole, out of context and intended to piss someone off. Merit? Not so much.

Much of an automatic weapons function is not to for accuracy but in a military sense, to give cover for movement and position. In a close area or where there are many targets a short distance away, an automatic fire weapon can be more effective in the hands of an experienced handler of that weapon. Otherwise, I would agree, semi-automatic is the way to go.
I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on whats being proposed here, hed agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute. - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

Exactly. Thats why when the military attacks something most of the automatic weapons are set down as a base of fire while the maneuver element is made up of mostly semi automatic weapons with a couple of fully automatic weapons.
