    Liberal. Socially, and fiscally.

It's what the cool kids are doing.

    yeah...that's real funny.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

I seriously have no idea what it means to be a fiscal liberal.

I think most have some varience. Liberal on some issues, more conservative on others, and sometimes quite moderate. The discussion often is blind to this reality.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

thats okay. In real life - where it really counts - the right gets "conservative", "fascist" and "reactionary" as their menu.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

I see much reactionary politics in the left, as so many people simply decide what they are against, ball up their little hands into fists and support whatever is the opposite.

Supporting the status quo is not reactionary in and of itself, however, as those who support the status quo do so out of a desire to conserve the prevailing orthodoxy rather than react against it.

When I think of reactionary leftists, I think more of the reflexively anti-American posters who are the flip side of the coin from a jingoist -- the "we are always in the wrong" crowd that offers their tacit support to just about anything anti-American.

That is a unique definition. How do you figure that?

    Wikipedia disagrees with you

The term reactionary refers to viewpoints that seek to return to a previous state (the status quo ante) in a society. The term is meant to describe one end of a political spectrum whose opposite pole is "radical".
Your usage is not the standard usage.
