NJ was spending way beyond its means. rather than getting its budget back in check, the previous politicians kicked that can down the road by doing things such as not funding its pension plan
    year after year
and the problem was getting more and more unmanageable while the politicians refused to address the real issue: too much spending for the available tax base
little different than our nation's fiscal mismanagement since reagan ... only without the fed's ability to print money to further postpone our country's day of reckoning

don't misunderstand me. christie is no diplomat. he is actually a dick; youtubes will put that bullying 'quality' on display. as a union official, i resent his heavy handed dealings with labor. but we need straight shooters in office in these hard times. and christie is nothing if not blunt

seems preliminary reports indicate christie's 1pm announcement is to say he will not run. that is unfortunate. he was one of the few republicans i might vote for instead of Obama. and i believe there are many in the middle, like me, who would do the same
that can't be said for romney. as someone mentioned, he is a republican kerry - with the added baggage of being too mormon. un-electable

i fear palin will now jump in and motivate the teabaggers to nominate her as much as that will cause the great majority of Americans to be forced to re-elect Obama - by default

the only way the republicans can salvage this election is to give Gary Johnson some air time. like christie, as gov of NM Johnson did what he promised in his campaigns to do. and left the office with the state in a sound fiscal condition
a fiscal conservative and social liberal, Gary Johnson - again, like christie - would steal the votes of centrist Americans ... votes that will otherwise elect Obama

looks like Obama will win 2012 only because the republicans cannot find an electable candidate. not unlike the democrats of humphrey, mcgovern, mondale, dukakis, gore, and kerry ...
the gop needs to wake up and realize that romney is another bob dole - only with less charisma
But even if you agree with his policies and decisions, the man has lied. He openly lied about what he would do if elected and promised not to slash the police, teachers, and public workers. That does not sound like a straight shooter to me. He starves towns and cities of the resources they need to continue employing public workers and then claimed it wasn't him when the people go without jobs.

I know the liberals on the forum will not like this statement..but I calls it like I sees it...disclaimer: Im wrong a whole lot too

I think Christie or Romny beats Obama...obamas only chance that I see is if a far right nutter gets the nod and thats getting more unlikely all the time.

I don't know that I would go so far as to say that Christie/Romney "beat" Obama, but they certainly would make it a race. You are correct that the outliers pretty much ensure a second Obama term, which is why I'm supporting either Perry/Bachman/Cain/Palin for the GOP nod.

I could support a Christie/Rubio ticket. Right now, all the GOP is offering up is a bunch of joke politicians that won't stand a chance against Obama. If they intend on even standing a chance of winning they need to appeal to the moderates and independants. Those are the voters who always decide the outcome. Yet, they still insist on sucking up to the wingnuts. Yet ANOTHER GOP dumbass move.

I suspect you might have half the ticket there.... at least the lower half. Rubio would be my odds on favorite for the VP slot.

I would not support a christie/rubio ticket...both of them "OWE" their stature to the teaparty and they would both be pawns for their whims in my opinion.
You are correct the GOP field other than romney are jokes....romny is the only one that will appeal to moderates and independents and will have more of a mind of his own than christie or rubio could...thats why the far right nutters dont want romney....Christies positions and history are just as moderate and liberal and romneys and in some areas more so...the teaparty hawked him because they can control him...

Romney Rubio is probably the ticket that has the best chance of beating Obumble

Another strong ticket would be Romney Portman-two guys who really understand Budget issues and both are far smarter than Obama and Biden
