That was 100% absent in that recording. Without actually seeing video of it, it sounds to me like she was serious as hell.
Methinks you have your partisan hearing aid on. If she were a Republican you would dismiss what she said.

If she were a Republican I'd say the exact same thing - she was dead pan, and in no way sounded like she was kidding. Sarcasm also usually has a tone to it - there was none.

Isn't that what politics is all about? Finding a weakness and exploiting it? Macaca for example seemed to work pretty well.
I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on whats being proposed here, hed agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute. - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

I don't think she was kidding. First, as a incumbant politician, she speaks as a politician and first they would like job security. She fails to observe that these mutts she tacitly supports haven't done their jobs. She is sympathetic as a vested interest, and it affects her thinking. Politicians don't think like the people they represent. Evidenced by bank bailouts, unpopular wars, censored news, military-industrial complex, ad infinitum. SOP, when a politician says the wrong thing, their media gang fires up full throttle to mitigate the damage. That's what we are seeing and hearing. They use their soap box.

I think she was serious as a heart attack and is just back peddling because of backlash.

But I don't care that much. A lot of people have bizarre solutions and crazy answers to problems Doesn't mean we're going to do it.

    to OP:

I live in NC. Perdue is already on thin ice already. She's been kissing teacher's asses to save her job for the last few years. (while screwing over others)

    Remember what Mitch suggested.

Something like the number one goal should be to deny the opposition another term.

You could give most of these plotiticians 10 year terms and they will still act the ____ing same way.

The never ending campaig wouldn't end due to suspending elections alone IMO.

Heck while they are at it, maybe they should give themselves a raise for not having to go through another grueling election.

Re: A joke, or not a joke?

Ive read it...and I believe her explanation that it was neither a serious statement or a joke...it was sarcasm aimed at the hyper partisanship in congress that has nothing being done....I found that a reasonable explanation and im not being partisan about it.

Was Governor Beverly Perdue serious about suspending the 2012 elections or was she using hyperbole and joking?
As I said in another thread, anyone who listens to that tapeand says she was joking is a joke.
