The "point" of school is to enforce contemporary values. State schools enforce politically correct values, both academic and social. When you learn to follow instructions and obey authority, you can be trusted to fulfill a variety of state-sponsored functions, like worker, consumer, propaganda disseminator, soldier, government functionary. However, failing the trust test, by displaying discontent, dissent, or disobedience, you face a lifetime of social, political, and academic marginalization.

I think Joe Citizen wants an academic education. I think the police want the citizens to be taught respect for "law and order" and probably lots more respect than they deserve. I think the gov't wants to peddle propaganda/selective or creative history and does so by defining which textbooks are used when gov't money is involved. Try to take a course that indentifies the stockholder names of the Federal Reserve.
 
What is the point of School? To educate dummies who start stupid polls.
 
the point of an education system is twofold: to prepare a citizenry to hold jobs, and be responsible self-governors.
 
Public education needs to go back to teaching the 4 Rs and get the politcally correct indoctrination that have destroyed public education and takes up most of the school day out

Interesting distinction - PUBLIC education certainly needs to emphasize academics. Good, old fashioned, un-biased, non-political adademics. Can you read? Have you read some of the important works? Can you write? Can you write well? Do you understand math? Can you use algebra and geometry? Do you understand how important math is in everyday life? Do you know how to use a computer (more than texting and games)? Do you understand the basics of science? Do you understand how different areas of science, such as biology, affect your everyday life? Do you understand how the United States government works (at its most noble funtion)? Do you know why the US came into existence and how we fit into world history in general?

PRIVATE eduction and University education goes on from there. Pick a field. Pick a specialty. Pick a bias - that's ok. Explore whatever area of learning you think will benefit you the most.

However, what a person learns at school is much more than what should be taught. Socialization is learned because they are in a social setting. Learn how to be fair by being led by a fair person. Learn to be honest by being punished for cheating. That is NOT the purpose of school. That's what happens in life.

Public school should not be a forum for the biased to mold a child. It should be the forum 1.) to learn basic facts (academics) and 2.) to teach a child to think for himself (critical thinking). If the student comes out of a classroom with the same worldview as the teacher, the teacher has failed miserably. The student should be able to learn various worldviews and develop their own worldview on their own.

Support the local voucher system. Every parent should be able to spend their child's money on the education they think will most benefit that child.
 
I think the point of education through high school should be exposure to a wide variety of intellectual studies.

The point of college should be to give kids practical skills in a field of their choosing.

Sorry - yes, I understood that. I was agreeing with your statement, then I added to it. I just noticed that you properly limited the statement to "public" education. If we all have no choice but to pay towards the same schooling, then the schooling should make every effort to teach without political bias. If you go private, anything's on the table.

The voucher system would allow our tax dollars to support the school that was best for our kids.

No doubt. Are you saying that you think teachers should "teach" diversity? If so, what do you mean? If not, please explain.

Children can learn things in school without the teachers teaching about it.

However, cultural studies is a legitimate and desireable course of study.
