Should we legalize all sex between consenting adults?

No. Mostly because we cannot trust the majority of adults to maintain things in private. These things go from being private to being public too easily.

I'm no prude. I enjoy sex as much as the next person; even some of the more unusual forms of sexual expression. I just don't believe that most people are capable of keeping it in private, and therefore we need to restrict what can and cannot be done.

Tigger...so you're in favor of a police state in which adult sexual behaviors are under constant scrutiny?

You want a person assigned by the authorities to follow you around to monitor your sexual encounters in any private setting of your choice...in order to keep you from exploiting your sexual experiences in a public setting?

The more that I think about your comment, the more deeply troubling that is to me.

In case you haven't noticed...there are laws against having sex in public places by consenting adults.

And excuse me for saying so - but I think you are way beyond the meaning of the word "prude".

I don't have a problem with prostitution in general. I have a problem with it being in the public view, and we all know that if it's legalized it's going to become MORE visible, not less. I could even be convinced to accept homosexuality on some level IF it could be forced into PRIVATE SETTINGS ONLY. The problem is that we cannot do that. Until we find a way to move the less socially acceptable forms of these acts into private settings only, they need to be regulated.

Not true. At all.

How do I know? Because in some places I've been, prostitution is legal.

Go to any major American city, and you will see prostitutes standing on corners from the moment the sun goes down.

In some countries where prostitution is legal, there's a lot less of that. Why? Because they can run it indoors, people know where they are, and they don't have to advertise by standing on the corner. In addition, curb-crawling is frequently illegal in these countries anyway. If they can do it legally and people know where to go to find them, why would they take the risk of standing on the corner and being arrested? It's not worth the trouble.

Not only that, but being in a fixed position is a better business model - they'll get more repeat customers because they won't have to switch up blocks all the time.

Prostitution being legal, and not on the streets, also reduces all manner of violent crime. You don't have gun-toting pimps in every alley.

Legal prostitution is not only LESS visible to those who don't want to see it, but communities are safer.

So in short, the solution has already been found. Make it legal, but just ban it from the streets. Prostitutes are not going to be inclined to break the law, because it offers them no benefit. They can make money more consistently, and legally, by taking it to private property.

Just because you don't accept them doesn't mean the same for the rest of society.

Besides, who cares about being socially acceptable? People should be free to do as they please, obviously as long as it doesn't cause bodily harm to or endanger the safety of another person.
Lets be careful here, the slope may be slippery.
Sex should NEVER have been legal nor illegal between consenting adults, the "law" should mind their own business.
But, then, is man ready for "freedom" ??
At all times, the children must be considered above and beyond the pleasures of man/woman.
IOW, I do not know....for certain...

umm...the only thing that stands between us and you idea of sexual freedom is the legalization of prostitution.
We must finally leave the 16th century and legalize prostitution !
We are so far behind the much more advanced European nations that its not funny !

We are not sexually free. All sex between consenting adults is not legal. I favor legalizing human sexuality. It should be very simple. Any kind of sex is made legal as long as it's done in privacy and all involved are consenting adults. End of story. It should not matter whether they're of the same or opposite sex, if money is involved, if some people think the acts are strange. If they consent -- if they're adults -- if it's in a privacy, it's legal.

Btw, strong emphasis on adults. No pedophilia is allowed.

If you give it stipulations and specifications then it's still not completely free or legal - it's regulated.

If it doesn't harm anyone, it should be legal

Now I'm not one usually swayed by the "its immoral" argument, but I'm equally not swayed by people who use the argument you and other shave used here that "morality" has no place in laws. Because the statement I pulled from your post exemplifies why.

That statement, the fact that you feel if it doesn't harm anyone that it should be legal, is one based off your OWN morality. Just as you can feel something that's immoral to someone is a "good time" to you, someone could see your belief that things are okay if they "don't hurt anyone" as wrong because they think its fine to hurt someone else as long as it helps them.

YOU are making a moral determination based on your own views of what is right and wrong regarding laws...IE "If it doesn't hurt anyone its okay"...doing so in no different of a fashion than Digsbe. The only real different is he is upfront about the fact he's wanting the law based on his personal views.

All laws, to a point are based on morality. They are all based on what individuals think or feel is right or not right. And as with all things, what one person thinks is fine or not fine another person could have a completely different opinion on.

That's why people going "it offends my morals" doesn't tend to sway me to my side but also why I roll my eyes at those who try and argue against such points simply by stating morals don't matter regarding the law.

So two siblings, a parent and and adult child, a grandparent and adult grandchild, and two cousins should be able to legally engage in sex?

So two siblings, a parent and and adult child, a grandparent and adult grandchild, and two cousins should be able to legally engage in sex?

Do you mean all of those people engaging at once in a big group, or just each example on their own (two siblings, parent and adult child... ect)?

To take a step back for a moment, the problem with incest comes not from the sex itself, but from the genetic problems associated with inbreeding. Because of that, a lot of us, myself included, think it's really icky and gross and don't want to do it. But I can't help but see consensual sex between two adults, for whatever reason, to be none of my business and certainly none of the government's.

There's a big difference between disliking something and making it a crime. If some other people want freaky inbred children, or to keep their relations in their weird inbred family, it's not really any concern of mine. In fact, keeping them all together somewhere might be beneficial to the rest of us. They'll die out from genetic problems at some point, and so the gene pool will be cleansed. It's natural selection in action.

So yeah, any consensual sex between adults should be legal. But it's completely fine not to want to partake in whichever options you don't want. Making something like this a crime does more harm than good.

I agree with you. Also, I think prostitution would me MUCH safer for all parties involved if it were to be legalized and more heavily regulated. In fact, I think that many of the negatives associated with this business would be minimized.

Two consenting adults of legal age should be allowed to do whatever they want behind closed doors (or open doors if it’s a room in a private house, and the front door to the house is closed).

Legally - yes
Morally - no
And we must have moral values.
The children must be respected as well....children of all ages.

Yes, prostitution should be legalized. I'm not really sure what else you might be referring to. I can't think of any other sex acts done privately between two consenting adults which are illegal.

Some sodomy laws still exist.

Are they actually still enforced? If so, how?

Maybe by secret gov't peeping toms?

They're still on the books, but not enforced. They should be removed from the books whether enforced or not.

If you are for sexual freedom does it matter just as long as they consenting adults?

I wanted to address the incest issue. First, I find it totally revolting and would never do it under any circumstances. Second, the consenting adults standard still applies. Incestuous rape should remain illegal because consent is not present. Sex with a child is also out because a child cannot consent whether related or not. That leaves related adults. IMO it's completely gross, but they should be allowed to have sexual relations if they choose to. It's not that I'm recommending it. It's just that I don't think it's the government's role to prohibit consenting adults from doing what they want in privacy. It's true that people too closely related are at higher risk of genetically deficient offspring. However, most sex is not for reproduction. Most sex happens with birth control and no intent for offspring. And many people have had their tubes tied or are older and cannot reproduce. There's also a higher risk of defects in reproduction between people who aren't related, but just have lousy genes. They should not be prohibited from having sex either.

Yes, incest is abhorrent to most people. However, it's also a case where the government should just butt out and let people make their own choices.

I think it's bad for society and for the law to view sex as a purchasable commodity. It degrades the human body, encourages sexual immorality, and still would not outlaw illegal prostitution. If a pimp has to pay taxes for prostitution, pay to have them drug tested, and if clients have to pay to be drug tested themselves to prove they won't spread disease will result in a price hike. Illegal markets will still be around because they can offer sex for less.

The appropriate action for such feelings is to find prostitutes, discover their reason for engaging in the trade (usually desperation), and help them. Driving them into the dens of pimps who will brutalize and exploit them (sometimes to the point of murder) because of your personal notions of righteous sexual conduct is wrong.

Rule of thumb: don't try to prevent people from performing actions that they have reasoned are right for themselves, unless you are willing (and able) to take responsibility for their needs yourself.

It's worth noting, I believe prostitution is wrong for the reasons you described, but neither of us has the moral authority to make that decision for other human beings. No one gave us that authority, and we were not born with it.

Yes all sex between consenting adults should be legal.

"I" may not like it
"I" may not want to participate

but

"I" also understand thats such matter are non of my business.

now on to prostitution

Yes this should be legal too, it should be regulated just like other business.
Make it safer and cleaner and take the money and put it to good use. Health Care, Crime etc

I just could never find any logic to make it illegal?

I mean I could come over and mow your lawn, dig you a ditch, message you, cut your hair, even model nude for you as long as it wasn't for SEXUAL PLEASURE and legally charge you. but if my penis touches you ILLEGAL!!!!!! lol thats non-sense.

I mean pros-cons the pros win in reality.

You are not worried that tv shows and talk shows will try to normalize incestuous relationships like they do with homosexuals and trannys and the consequences inbreeding could have on society?

Thats why we have over million abortions a year and a high rate of stds because people are careful about using protection

The TV talk shows can talk about whatever they want. It's known as free speech. And homosexual relationships are legitimate and normal relationships that we should accept.

On that basis, should we also ban sex between non-related people who have lousy genes?

This is not a eugenics discussion.

Wait a minute. You're Very Conservative, and you're not a prude (even enjoying strange forms of sex)? I believe I just heard liberal minds exploding everywhere.
