My personal view is when the US has more disasters than Congress gave the agency repsonible funding for, then Congress needs to redirect funds to cover the costs. We cannot continue to deficit spend. So yes, if the disaster relief is a high priorty then the cost must be offset by cuts in other programs.

Right, it's no longer a choice of what we would like to do. We simply can not continue to spend money we do not have. We have to pick our priorities.

So whats the priorities...tax cuts for corporations and the rich first....then disaster relief for people caught in natural disasters through no fault of their own and lost everything...

The discussion is around what should be done here. Are you disagreeing with my point and believe that we should just spend all day with no care for how in debt we are?

Since Bush doubled the Defense budget, would you agree taking the money from there?

    No, it shouldn't be.

Instead, Congress should plan better for disaster relief spending and do better about setting aside funds for disaster relief. Considering how important it is to spend that money to rebuild to revitalize the economy, I don't see why Cantor would deliberately try to kill jobs here in the U.S.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

Actually, I would. Slowly scale down the overseas troop size and use the money we save where it is needed most. I see no problem with that.

Tax the rich along w/corporations and wah-la! Money. There is NO REASON to cut from social programs. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are practically begging we, "The People" to fight for ourselves and ask Congress to raise their taxes. They're telling us that they can and will help our country. Interesting how the VERY people trying to protect "The Rich" refuse to listen to THE two richest men in America. The GOP is protecting everyone below Gates and Warren - the ones stepping on the backs of the Middle class and Poor in hope of someday having the net worth and importance of both men.

Clearly the ones refusing to listen want to cut from social programs. In all their Christianity, they dont feel its really their job to help others.

    Silly poor people
Tax cuts are for the rich!

Can anyone show that if we taxed the "rich" more, it would cover all the spending and debt reduction? There is plenty of waste by the federal govt.
People also need to be willing to help themselves and quit looking solely for a handout from the feds.

bottom line, the feds needs a balanced budget. Like we all have to or should live under
