Why does the President get the credit/blame for just about everything that happens while he's in office? He doesn't make the laws. He doesn't control the spending. Yes, he supposed to put forth the budget, but Bill Clinton was the only President who had a line item veto for awhile. Meaning, if Congress wants to do something strongly enough, the President can't stop it. And, putting forth a plan or agenda doesn't mean Congress will follow it. Why does just about every political news story blame or give credit to the President for jobs, economy, trade, entitlements, etc. Even if he wants to go to war, Congress has to fund it. Reports always talk about what happened during the "Clinton administration" or "Bush administration", but not what happened "while Tom Foley or Newt Gingrich was Speaker of the House or when Trent Lot was Senate Majority Leader, etc.

Easier to blame a single person than a whole body. The president is the head of the nation, so a lot of importance is placed on his role, whether justly or not. And it is easier to report on a person the nation knows rather than individual Congressmen that depending on where they are from citizens will not care that much about.

I'm sure you're right. But, wouldn't it be so much more useful if they tied party policy to results instead of Presidential policy to results? Presidential policy doesn't account for much.

Well, that is because the President is seen as the head of the party. So, if the President's policy fails then the party policy fails. Whether that is true or not doesn't matter, that is the image the public gets.

Not sure why people think citizens are ignorant on this when congress' approval rating is way worse than Obama's...

It's for the same reason the manager gets fired when the team goes, 62-100. On the other hand, the president gets credit when things go well also.

Americans need to understand the fact that times have changed. The days of political bargaining and deal cutting are over. The parties are split right down the middle, and comprimise is off the table. The only way from here on out, or atleast for a long time, this nation will be able to move in atleast SOME DIRECTION, for bad or worse, Americans will needs to elect a full body government that is either republican or democrat. Pick your beliefs and go with the party that best suits your needs and desires. That means a Republican/Democratic President, Congress, and Senate. I think Americans would be amazed at how great washington works in dictatorship fassion. Its really sad it has come to this. The future of democracy looks dim. A transition to dicatorship looks very innevitable, thanks to our lovely Republican Party.

Republicans strike fear in Voters in false assumptions that Obama is a "dictator," When in reality, whats truely on their agenda is a our way, or the highway approach, which greatly resembles that of a dictating body looking for full government control. Be careful who you vote for in 2012, this may be the last free election we have. Voting restrictions will be in full effect in 2016. You will need a bank account and legal ID to vote, you will need to have a certain IQ, be an American citizen for a very long time, and so on. These are all examples of voter fraud and results tampering. The Republican party doing everything in its power to give corporations maximum control on American lives in everyday living situations. They want government completely eliminated leaving only the powerful American War Machine, using all left over funds to hire weapons and aircraft contractors to produce more revenue for everyones pockets. This nation has become a nation of greed, we need a REAL president whos willing to put People before Party. I dont believe our answer is President Obama, and I certainly dont believe its Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, or Michelle Bachmann. Im looking for a man whos willing to look people dead in the eye and tell them how it is. No political posturing, no fake smiles, just down to earth balls to the wall business. This is what America needs the most.

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."- The day we forget this, America will slowly fade and world stability will vanish resulting in a third world war or nuclear disaster.

Because the presidents the dude, dude.

The presidents the guy that everyone looks to, to solve everything. Partly because people expect it, because its easier to expect it of one person instead of 535 inept assholes. And partly because its what he campaigns on.

The president of the United States is at the present time far more powerful then was ever intended. And its interesting to note for example some of the right wing howling at president Obamas use of force in Libya, where by the way not a single American fatality has occured, while its an almost identical action taken by Reagan in the 80's and to a lesser extent the no fly zone over Iraq in the 90's and so on and so forth...

The president given the changing times and relatively vast powers is nessecary especially militarily speaking for world stability.

Could you imagine if the need for military force or assett movements had to be put through congress everytime? This body of 535 people who due to a elephant and an ass can't even agree anymore on what colour the ****ing sky is?

Morally and idealy speaking I find the idea of so much power wrested in the hands of one person to be undeniably wrong, but I feel better about that power in the hands of someone under such scrutiny as the president at this time then the incept, corrupt and ineffective governing body that congress has become.

I think despite the presidents inability to get a single piece of effective legislation through congress at the present time, he gets much of the blame for Americas current predicament because unlike congress he has other avenues to effect change and set a standard. However this most recent president has recieved much flack for failing to fix the unfixable, which isn't helped by the fact he said he could fix it. Then again he's a politician, what else is he gonna campaign on? "Well, maybe we can" To truly bring America out of its current predicament, will take some bad years. It will take some pain and some hardship and some sacrifice which it seems no one is willing to bare, everyone wants quick solutions that are niether practical or effective, and the same people who say they don't think government is the answer, are the same people who feel that if you simply change the bed sheets in the white house everything will be rosy and it'll all be ok again.

Well it won't. Few people truly understand how desperate things were in 2008, and how close complete collapse was, and how relatively speaking in better shape things are then they could or should be.

If we expect one person to fix all our problems, or that a magical texan can fix our economy, you're a believer in government. Whether you justify that by saying that someone like Perry would get "Government out of the way" is null and void because you're still expecting something of government one way or the other. America is a land where if you prosper, you can really and truly prosper. People are still making millions and billions, people are still coming up with revolutionary ideas.

And all of this is bigger then one person or one big ass house or special 747.

It's called the people.

Who are ultimately responsible for the outcome of their own decisions, through the force they exert as a democratic voting politic.

Democracy is a great idea until you spend five minutes with the average voter.
