Because the presidents the dude, dude.
The presidents the guy that everyone looks to, to solve everything. Partly because people expect it, because its easier to expect it of one person instead of 535 inept assholes. And partly because its what he campaigns on.
The president of the United States is at the present time far more powerful then was ever intended. And its interesting to note for example some of the right wing howling at president Obamas use of force in Libya, where by the way not a single American fatality has occured, while its an almost identical action taken by Reagan in the 80's and to a lesser extent the no fly zone over Iraq in the 90's and so on and so forth...
The president given the changing times and relatively vast powers is nessecary especially militarily speaking for world stability.
Could you imagine if the need for military force or assett movements had to be put through congress everytime? This body of 535 people who due to a elephant and an ass can't even agree anymore on what colour the ****ing sky is?
Morally and idealy speaking I find the idea of so much power wrested in the hands of one person to be undeniably wrong, but I feel better about that power in the hands of someone under such scrutiny as the president at this time then the incept, corrupt and ineffective governing body that congress has become.
I think despite the presidents inability to get a single piece of effective legislation through congress at the present time, he gets much of the blame for Americas current predicament because unlike congress he has other avenues to effect change and set a standard. However this most recent president has recieved much flack for failing to fix the unfixable, which isn't helped by the fact he said he could fix it. Then again he's a politician, what else is he gonna campaign on?
"Well, maybe we can" To truly bring America out of its current predicament, will take some bad years. It will take some pain and some hardship and some sacrifice which it seems no one is willing to bare, everyone wants quick solutions that are niether practical or effective, and the same people who say they don't think government is the answer, are the same people who feel that if you simply change the bed sheets in the white house everything will be rosy and it'll all be ok again.
Well it won't. Few people truly understand how desperate things were in 2008, and how close complete collapse was, and how relatively speaking in better shape things are then they could or should be.
If we expect one person to fix all our problems, or that a magical texan can fix our economy, you're a believer in government. Whether you justify that by saying that someone like Perry would get "Government out of the way" is null and void because you're still expecting something of government one way or the other. America is a land where if you prosper, you can really and truly prosper. People are still making millions and billions, people are still coming up with revolutionary ideas.
And all of this is bigger then one person or one big ass house or special 747.
It's called the people.
Who are ultimately responsible for the outcome of their own decisions, through the force they exert as a democratic voting politic.
Democracy is a great idea until you spend five minutes with the average voter.
