Do you think Bachman or Perry can beat Obama if either win the primary

Both are too right wing for the independents. That's all that counts. Michelle Bat****insane and Pastor Perry simply won't appeal to the people who matter during an election period. However I hope the Conservative purists prevail in putting them on a ticket. It'll be a landslide.

Perry stands the best shot out of the two.

My thoughts exactly. Ron Paul can appeal to Independents while extreme right-wingers cannot ... and I am OK with that! So ... No they can't

So, how about Paul's domestic policy stance? How does that square with your Independents versus "extreme right-wingers" (I'm guessing social conservatism is "extreme right-wing")?

No, neither of the two can beat Obama, they are both wacky in their own ways.

This. I don't think Perry would be real likely to win, but with well over a year to election, who can say for sure.

Bachmann certainly can't beat Obama. I don't care how bad the economy is or how low Obama's approval rating goes...the American people have no appetite for political extremists and never have. She will lose big.

Rick Perry is a much stronger candidate. I am worried about his candidacy. He seems to have all the ingredients necessary for a successful campaign. Obama is in for a very tough campaign if Rick Perry is the nominee...especially if the economy is as bad next year as it is now.

Fair enough. Ron Paul could gather more Independents than Perry or Bachmann easily.

Sure, anything can happen. Look who's sitting in the White House right now. There's your proof of concept.

All Obama needs to do is something as crazy as his order to have NASA changes its mission to making sure that Muslim nations feel good about themselves. If he can come up with something as cockamamie as that in the days before an election, he's sure to be booted out.

Elections are always a referendum on the incumbent, not the challengers.

Confederate plates could be touchy issue for Perry | Reuters

Perry

Two articles from a right leaning site...drudge on Perry early perceptions...Of course EARLY is the key word...They are trying to compare perry to bush...not going to happen in my mind.....Perry has alot of baggage...People dont take well to flippers...democrat to gop and vice versa...

I think Perry could beat Obama.

I hope the GOP is stupid enough to pick Perry or Bachman. Obama would beat both of them.

So far the only candidate that stands a chance against Obama is Romney and the radical evangelical base will never support him, so the GOP is screwed.

Personally, the only GOP candidate that I could stomach would be Huntsman, but he is way too moderate and reasonable to get the GOP nomination.

I'm not so sure that you're being completely honest. I suspect that you'll find a way to continue living if some other Republican wins the White House.

Take solace by knowing that I'm managing to survive even with a total loser sitting in the White House right now. Sure, he's ruining the country but there is always a tomorrow to look forward to, a tomorrow with Obama replaced by a Republican.

You'll find a way to cope with President Palin's 8 year term of office. So don't despair.

LOL! I couldn't find the "hell no" option. :sun

I would agree with you that Perry will win the nomination, but I think he will lose the general election, for the same reason Bachmann would, but I also agree it would be a closer race.

Not a chance. Obama's record is too strong. The GOP cannot compete against a booming economy/record job growth....

We need to establish a sarcasm font.

I think Perry stands a great chance of beating Obama. The proof is that Texas is one of the least hurt states in the nation with these policies. From an executive standpoint, his track record is showing that he's done a great job.

Is he a gun-totin' archconservative? Yeah, I see shades of that in him, and it's not pleasing me greatly. However, his ability to un-do all of Obama's crap can be surmised with one phrase - the proof is in the pudding.

Perry will leave Bachmann in the dust when he starts campaigning.
Bachmann suffers from being the understudy to Palin and Perry suffers from being the understudy of Bush. Fair or not, the association is there.

I think Perry could have a shot. Not a good one in my mind at the moment, but things can change in more than a year. However I do think he'd have the possability of beating Obama.

I think there's little to no chance Bachmann could.

Theres a big country out there aside from texas and iowa....wearing his religion on his sleeve will not play well with the whole country....being a flipper doesnt help either...I dont think his chances are as great as some believe...Bachman hasnt much chance at all...even some republicans think shes nuts

It's not so much that I think she's nuts (she's not totally sane either), but she severely lacks experience.

Then again, a president currently sits who revokes the myth that the presidency requires a resume. I just think that America learned not to elect a president with about 17 minutes of Congressional experience like Obama.

Seriously, how much experience is needed?

If the opponent has little political experience one capitalizes on it, if the opponent has too much political experience one capitalizes on it referring them to having spent too much time in Washington.

The voters become like Goldilocks looking for that perfect feeling bed. Then to make it even harder to differentiate between the candidate you have to realize they will say anything to get your vote.
