What happened to a balanced debt plan?

President Obama asked Americans tonight to pressure congressional Republicans to accept a "balanced plan" to reduce the federal debt through taxes as well as budget cuts in order to stave off a government default that will kill jobs and slow the economy.
Seriously? Did he really cave that far to the right ...? A balanced plan was the fiscally conservative plan .... yet there he went caving to the GOP for unfunded wars from the Bush admin, tax cuts for the wealthiest citizens and legislation written for big Pharma, the oil industry subsides to name a few.

In some respects ... he has resolute intelligence and he always starts out close to perfect ... think original HCR with public option to allow real competition.

Again, a balanced debt plan in the debt ceiling deal ... and was exactly right on.

He always reaches so far across the aisle he undermines logic and math to appease the dim.

In other news, the sun rose in the east this morning and the sky is still blue. Expect nothing from Obama and you won't be disappointed.
For: legalizing drugs, gay marriage, abortion, guns, universal health care, public sector jobs, nuclear power, free education, progressive taxation

Obama made a mistake when he tried to cater to the right during his first 2 years He should have ignored them and got **** done, you know, actually stand up for what the majority of liberals actually believe in. He seems far too willing to bend over backwards for the extreme right.

Yourstar I agree but he had to becareful.

He simply couldn't afford to be seen, to be the one that held out and didn't get it raised. Combined with those dismal reports this morning, the S&P going negative for the year and on top of that a veto of the debt ceiling raised, he might as well have moved out of the white house tonight.

Oh I agree with this, a horrible deal is better then no deal in this instance, and I won't ever forget the people who would rather see our country driven off an economic cliff then raise taxes.

I was just commenting on Obama's overall performance.

Everything he seems to do is DOA.

He's been stuck between a rock and a hard place every single time he does anything, every hour of every day.

Those greys didn't come outta know where.

I think we've all been worn down by the 24/7 smear campaign that started the moment he was elected.

He's doing alot more, and working alot harder, then everyone is giving him credit for.

Having said that, as a leader, he hasn't lead the way on this issue that I'll say, I think he's just trying to keep the ship from hitting a mine at this point whilst trying to avoid several ice bergs.

There was balance. They cut and we don't march on Washington and throw them out.

Theres such a thing as giving your opponent enough rope to hang himself. Obama may be doing the right thing capitulaiting to the teaparty a little to paint them as extremists...I believe it was pretty apparent as to who wasnt negotiating and who was just demanding....americans will not like that in the long term

What "bending over backwards" for the right? Everything he's done has pretty much been right in line with left wing ideology, and the only reason he's ever reached out to the right is because he hasn't been able to get his crap passed at all without doing so to a certain extent.
