End the Embargo.
Close Guantanamo.

Bring them under our support to keep a pleasant ruling eye and hand on things rather than this '10 foot pole' tension. If we give options that will improve their situation as a trade-off for doing these things then maybe we'll be better off.

The only real issue with Cuba is their relationship with others in regard to how it might affect us. So - we should just become their BFF.

Hold your friends close and your enemies closer.

ALot of what you say is true...and I believe alot of it especially with guys my age who lived through the cuban crisis...I know Fidel hates us deeply he wanted Russia to annihilate us...he tried to get Krushchev to nuke us...hence the missile sites in cuba that JFK rightfully took a firm stance against....Alot of it has been punishment and retribution that act of war against us..

We got into the Cuban Missile Crisis because of our attempts to take out Castro. If the goal is to take him out, lifting the embargo would be far more successful.

my opinion is that it's time to lift the embargo.

Keep the embargo. Every argument made against it has been initiated by a Cuban, a socialist, or someone buying the communist gov. sources.

Those threats initiated by Khruschev were intended to show strength when they really had none. Yes they had nuclear weapons, but they knew our second strike capibility would wipe them out. And plus look at the terms of peace: they didn't want us to invade Cuba since they told us not to invade it. Their proximity to Cuba was so far that logistics would be a huge problem and the United States would have interior lines.

if anything, the embargo works to preserve their failed state by given them an issue of solidarity to rally around.

end it.

Ending the embargo would probably do more to take Castro out of power then anything, so yes we should end it.

Not if we play power politics. Cuba is basically isolated at this point, so playing power politics against them would give us the initiative in diplomatic talks.

Ya know second strike capability has just never meant that much to me in relation to nuclear armageddon. Call me a pessimist but I just don't see what it is worth in the end.

It is a good detterence in situations such as the CMC.

Why you laughing brah?

Because that argument is pathetic and i find it laughable.
We love China they are "communist."
Whats the point again for the embargo?
All people that speak out against the embargo are "a socialist, or someone buying the communist gov. sources."? Serioiusly?
Amnesty international and other human rights groups are all "socialists and buy gov sources"?
The international community/UN are "socialists and buy gov sources"?
Ron Paul is an extreme right winger libertarian and he wants the embargo to end....

They're globalist, and you don't know what Ron Paul has been reading. I don't like China at all you htink we should give in to our demands and let them compete with out economy? But brah why u mad?

And so f'ing what if the world is put into a nuke winter.

That wouldv'e happened if Khruschev didn't back down from the Berlin crisis. The only way I can see us making a benifit from a lifting of the Cuban embargo is if we can make any flexibility with it, which can get complex because it requires overlapping alliances and such, kind of like what Bismarck did. But yea I do get how you're feeling about it.

Not mad. Just find your argument and reasoning to keep the embargo pathetic...

I don't think it is at all. But if that's how you feel, we're going to agree to disagree.

Well what is the point of the embargo?
You have not said...

The basic idea around it is power politics. Cuba is somewhat isolated at this point, and any country that has interest in giving support will be operating on exterior lines. This was a land the Soviets overextended on. All we do is encourage democracy, then leave.

they are far from isolated. They even have Americans traveling there, we just have to fly out of Canada to go.

That's for our relations, though. I was talkking about with other countries and their geopolitical situation.

other countries trade with them, they are not isolated from anyone but us.

Give me an example. A source would help too. Andthe ones who trade with them are not in assisting distance or don't have the projection power.
