Re: Should the Embargo with Cuba be lifted?

You guys all say this like it is some simple solution to peace, love, and happiness. End the embargo...and...then what? Cuba is already free to trade with most of the rest of the world. That aint helping so good. We are going to sell them...which products exactly? Nah...Im thinking thats not going to happen. We will import...what...cigars? Cuba isnt exactly a hotbed of industry and we get plenty of cheap **** from other markets already. The Cuban resort towns (and government) already benefit from the tourism trade...that doesnt filter into the economy.

What do people really think it means to 'end the embargo'? Easy to say 'words'...how is it that it is supposed to help anything? You think the government would actually embrace a change and allow the US to paint the situation differently than what Castro has created there?

Ending the embargo doesn't have to result in peace love and happiness. But those who want to keep it should at least explain how it benefits the US to keep the embargo in place. Otherwise, why bother with an embargo when we could make some money and employ some americans at a time when unemployment is high

Um... yeah... I favor privatizing most highways. I'm not exactly beholden to Castro's worker's paradise.

You don't "win" a full-scale nuclear exchange. I interviewed Khrushchev's son a couple of years ago for a History Day project. He described the mindset in the Kremlin as being that of implacable, even boneheaded resistance. After what the Soviet Union experienced in WWII it would not tolerate threats to it, no matter what the cost. Fortunately, common sense eventually carried the day.

For me it's simple. I'm not a socialist so a state under a supposedly benign dictator will fail. Cuba has for over 50 years had a excuse for it's failure. End the ineffective embargo and end the excuse for the miserable failure.

i don't think so. this isn't about cigars, after all.

You are forgetting the point for a second strike capibility, which was our upper hand back in 1962.

And who would you employ? What products would you sell there? No way in hell Cuba imports American goods. The ONLY thing lifting the embargo would do would be to release travel restrictions. People wouldnt have to fly through Canada to get to Cuba. Enhance the wealthy tourism areas and government bank accounts but would do nothing for the typical Cubanos.

Like I said...you talk about this as if you have actually given thought to it beyond...yeah...we should lift the embargo...cuz...thats wrong...but you havent.

you are too busy moving goal posts to care what you are talking about

Cuban military might is the last concern any sane person should have, yet that seems to be your focus.

I find it rather comical, if not pathetic
