I have a friend in Oconomowoc, WisCONsin.....had to look it up to convnce myself he didn't make that town name up....

My keyboard player lives in Oconomowoc and I also have a warehouse there where I keep my sound company equipment. It's a sure 'nuff place all right.

I could be mistaken, but aren't you also familiar with Smiley High School in Houston or was that danarrea?

Sorry to go off topic.

We will now continue with our regular programming. LOL!

I have family there. I found that out when I was eight. I giggled forever spelling it out over and over.

thank you for paying in at a time that I am taking it out.....:2razz:
my kids are 40 and 38, probably won't see much of it. So the wife and I will leave them some money to retire on....already have some set aside to educate the grandkids. They will need all the education they can get to survive...

Far be it from me to downplay education, but my oldest son, who graduated SMU alongside his wife, about 7 years ago are paying nearly 800.00 a month on student loans with no end in sight. They both have a fancy degree from a prestigous university yet they are struggling putting food on the table. His friends, who opted for trade/technical colleges, or no college at all, are doing quite well for themselves. Maybe in time that will turn around for them. But right now, their college degrees aren't worth the paper they were printed on.

Small world. I was class of '75. Lived off of Woodlyn.

Balsam lane.....still has thousands of acres of forest behind it. great place for boys to play..if their mommies let them.

Late 30's

My net worth so far is $300 000, with only $60 000 being from my primary home. Excluding capital gains or investment income I am adding between $15000-20000 to that number each year (debt paydown and adding to mutual funds)

keep it up.

I don't have enough saved to count as a "retirement fund" but I'm working on that. I don't count on receiving SS when I retire.

do you consider social security a part of your retirement income?

No I don't consider SS as part of my retirement. I have not paid into SS through most of my work life. The 35 quarters (or whatever its called) I consider it a donation to SS. Even if I worked for x years to qualify I most likely would only get the minimum.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the original intent of SS was to be a supplement to ones retirement and not "the" retirement plan.

Im 64, retired and comfortable...Im not inclined to tell people what i have or how much...but im quite comfortable...I would like to add when i came home from the military...as a cop i was making a whopping 5700.00 a year....public workers for decades made peanuts...its a recent phenomena that they make what they make.
Id like to see harry guerilla save 10k in 3 yrs on 5700 a year.....and one more thing harry...in 35 yrs the way this is going 10 grand every 3 yrs might land you in the gutter in your old age....I thought I was saving quite a bit too....

Well I'm just starting out, however, it came at great expense from a life changing event.
I work at a factory, I make about $12.50 an hour and support 4 people (myself included), plus I'm in the middle of buying a house.
Not on public assistance, in any way.

I've worked my ass off to get where I am, thus far.

i meant how much in general, clearly. i gave some broad categories for both age and wealth.

just didn't want you to think i was too nosy. i really wanted to see where people were in terms of retirement planning........

Well I'll be 21 in September, and I should be done with school when I'm 23, and I plan to open a CD and put a part of my paycheck in it for my retirement. I don't count on SS being there for me when I get that age, so I should save for myself. So that's my plan, even though I'm too young for the poll :2razz:

Wow, you Americans operate on different time scales to us. I am 17, and I will be leaving school next year, and I will be able to vote when I am 18. How come you will not be finished school until you are 23? Or do you mean university or college? And you can't vote until you are 21 - unreal!

As for my worth, I have a savings account in the UK with about £25 in it, and I have an ipod, a laptop, and a skateboard, worth a total of perhaps £200. So I'm quite a catch if any of you chicks are interested. ;)

well the wife and I were doing great...right on track and looking good.......then she got sick a little over a year ago and will never be the same.....were are paycheck to paycheck on me with her bills..........those who think your bustin it now and going to kick back later on....i wish you luck....life can throw a nasty curveball....i wasnt able to hit it.....our future is uncertain

When I was 28, I had a guitar and a seabag full of clothes. I would say that, for a young man, you are well ahead of the game. Hang in there brother.

Now that's something Captain America would say.

I enjoy gardening, particularly grow fruits and veggies.
I wouldn't have any qualms quitting what I'm doing now, to do that, if I had a retirement income.
It's very medicating to me.

I expect to earn enough doing that and teaching till I'm done. I figure as long as I can get out of bed, I'll want to tend a couple acres of ecofarm and teach.

Wow, there are many old people here. Is this place advertised in old people magazines? I'm 40 and just finishing my phd. I like older chicks, up to about 60 we're game. The skateboardaire can have the young uns.

If I did specialty fruits I'm sure I could earn a living from it.
Raspberries fetch a nice price, possibly even Paw paws, the latter because they aren't as common as they once were.

27, and, absolutely nothing, outside of social security.

im so sorry to hear this...I hope social security and medicare will be there to give you some room to breathe...
