Just wanted to mention something important here. When referring to hemp, don't call it marijuana. Marijuana is the political name that was given to it during the reefer madness era by its opponents. It's called cannabis. It is sub-divided into three species, one of which produces the greatest hemp yields.

It's not called marijuana hemp. You have a tree, and when you process the tree it is wood. You have cannabis sativa, and then you have its hemp.

Scientifically, there is no such thing as "marijuana". "Marijuana" comes from the Mexican word maraguanquo which means "intoxicating plant".

Both should be legal, it's long overdue.

    Interesting.

I've heard of many possible uses for hemp fibers.

And I've wondered if it could be used as a base for a bio-fuel of some sort - of course, the joke then would be "I get high when I drive my car - but not from smoking weed".

We need to legalize pot and hemp both, and farm them commercially instead of relying on subsidized and water intensive cotton while the cartels hire illegals to farm marijuana on our public lands.

Pot cultivation on national forest lands creates an ecological nightmare. Farming of subsidized cotton requires far more water than hemp would do.

Let's farm both commercially, stop the subsidies, and quit funding the absurd and unconstitutional war on drugs.

I support growing hemp for industrial uses. I support keeping marijuana use illegal.

Yes they should be allowed to be grown in the U.S. It would be a big boost to our economy, both for recreational drugs and for manufacturing goods.

And if that wasn't enough, George Washington grew hemp.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

We don't need another legal psychoactive drug on the markets. As a pre-pharmacy student and a biologist I cannot condone the legalization of marijuana for recreational drug use.
