Allow me to let you in on a big secret: Russia, historically, has not been the biggest fan of NATO.
It's political. Russia sees itself as a superpower, and is doing what they can to exert influence.
As far as the media, some of it is government controlled, and the rest of it hesitates to be too openly critical. Partly because of Putin's authoritarian streak, and partly because that's just how things have always been there.
That could just as easily be a description of USA MEDIA.
Maybe the conservatives fear the truth. It's interesting to analyze the poll results and conclude that not one respondent believes the media attempts to tell the truth. No one disputes that Qaddaffi provided free education, healthcare, housing, etc. The respondents generally believe that the "media" sells the wars and a good story is important, but the truth is not. I don't understand why the many conservatives on this forum chose not to participate. Maybe more will come and the analysis will need fine tuning.

I don't know if I'd say Fox hesitates in it's criticism of Obama. Some of it is justified, but they sure don't pull any punches.
Really, it's just a completely different culture. Americans look at George Washington as their paragon of a good leader. Russians tend to look at Ivan the Terrible as the paragon of a leader.
I wonder if that is fact or just more general misinformation stamped into history?
But, aside from the mass character-assassination that goes into debunking the simple fact that Russia pointed out an alternative and probably true side to a story, of course their opinions will be different. They will be politically and socially rooted.
I'm not sure pointing out the huge issues with press freedom in Russia, after it was claimed they were on par with the US, amounts to character assassination
No single respondent to this poll has even suggested that the Media is truthful.
What do you suppose causes that fact?
Character assassination in this matter would support current Russian media and castigate USA Media just for reality's sake.
Remember, you can fool rEpublicans all the time, and all the others most of the time, but you can't make them believe you are telling the truth. Paradox?
Nope, any story critical of the US in any unfriendly country must be the result of repression rather than legitimate differences in worldviews.
