If he's serious, better that he knows it.

My daughter's husband AND his parents view her two children as his. I am eternally grateful.

ha are you kidding?

Kind of. I really can't imagine caring for a kid that wasn't my own as much as I do for the ones that are my own. I could probably care some, but I'd have to try. With my own, it is as natural as breathing air.

My parents both divorced and remarried. My step dad took care of me financially, but there was a distance between us. I still call him by his first name. Now, we definitely love each other, but that relationship took years to build.

I am a very proud father of the most beautiful 6 month baby girl any of you will ever have the pleasure to lay eyes on:

Someday, I would like to be the father of the most beautiful baby boy any of you will ever have the pleasure to lay eyes on. Some years from now, I hope to be the grandfather of the most beautiful grand children you will have ever seen.

Want to know how cute my daughter is? My daughter is so cute that I get discounts when I go to restaurants by the management. My daughter is so cute she won a baby pageant and we just happened to be in the mall that day, we didn't even have her dressed for it. My daughter is so cute people with their OWN BABY CHILDREN come up to me and say that is the cutest baby I have ever seen. That is all.

I keep reading articles in magazines that say women are having fewer kids and there is less desire to have kids. It seems like more women want to be child free than men, so I thought I'd do a poll.

Here is a recent article I read.

Birth-Rate Study: In Recession, Fewer Women Having Kids - TIME

I don't think that this poll will help ya much. There seem to be a lot more men that post on this forum than women so you won't have a very accurate sample.

Sorry for the video, I couldn't resist.

If I could ever handle a child financially I would adopt, there are enough parent-less children in this world to go around IMO, just my personal preference/opinion.

Personally I want 2 more kids. Love the two I already have to death. But my wife said no more unless I am the one to get pregnant. :p But how can a person not love something this cute?

When he starts calling you "Dad", then you have a quick change of heart. I was a little leary about getting into instant fatherhood at first, but the more I got to know the boy, the easier the idea became to me. Besides that I knew I was never going to be a natural father and the boy needed one. For the past 17 years he has been MY son.

replacement birthrate for a nation is 2.1

no society has ever recovered from their birthrate dropping below 1.8

so what happens is the average age of a society increases, until there aren't enough young to take care of all the elderly, and the state is no longer collecting enough resources to step in.

those without children and without beau-coup money will be abandoned, though incrementally.

Greece, for example, as I recall, has the lowest birthrate in the EU. Though Italy is not too far behind.

:2wave: hope all you childless ones enjoy your retirement!

A lot of those problems could be fixed with immigration, unfortunately we usually try to make it harder for people to become citizens.

One thing that you forget...despite all of that it is moments like that and many many more that easily make up for it.

Amen! A few years ago, I realized, I was lucky I get to participate in my kids lives. We've had so many good times. Yes, there are dozens of times I marveled at my hubris in bringing them into the world; why did I think I was capable of handling this? Thank goodness, your post is the truth!

Yaaay, discounting the autonomy of other people for your own selfish gain! Not only that, but CREATING people for your own selfish gain!

Ya know, I notice a lot of parents of that line of thought getting a nasty shock these days when they realize their kids are independent beings who get to make their own decisions. And sometimes, those decisions don't line up perfectly with their selfish fantasy. What ever happened to freedom and personal responsibility, CP?

Furthermore, I would rather live in a society where I get to decide exactly how decrepit I want to let myself get, rather than being medically forced to languish for as long as possible, which is the current state of affairs. Problem solved.

lol I've probably seen that a dozen times. Still love it...and much of it is SOOOOO true!

I had a friend whose boys were 2, 4, and 6 when we sat down and watched "Bill Cosby, Himself." She became hysterical. We literally had to pause so she could laugh like a hyena.

I saw that video so many times, my daughter can, to this day, repeat portions of it verbatim. We'll yodel cheerfully in unison. "First you say it, then you do it!"

Tell him you're covered by the Duggars. So are five other families.

Lol, true. Maybe in exchange for their blatant misuse of their reproductive organs, their kids should be on loan for end-of-life care.
