Interesting, i always thought the poorer people were the more kids they had... but i guess thats just an education thing.

I do. In like 8 or 9 years from now... To young right now.

Nope. I've never wanted kids.

I think the reason being self-identified as childfree is more common in women is because the social pressure to have kids is a lot more over-the-top for women. Men don't seem to face as much judgment and coercion based on their reproductive states. Men also have an easier time acquiring sterilization procedures regardless of if/how many kids they have.

I'm 53 and my storage tank left the building 18 years ago. I'm on my third grandchild, six if I counted my stepdaughter's. Since I haven't seen them since 2008 - I don't.

It's funny, but just a few days ago I was thinking about doing a child-free by choice thread. And now, here it (sorta) is. :)

I have a cyber daughter who is one day younger than my daughter. She is CFBC, and when she was younger took a fair amount of **** over it. I don't know how anybody can judge anybody on that front. Who cares? (Except maybe potential grandparents).

Yup. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff people have said to me over me being childfree, and how blatantly we get discriminated against in reproductive care.

A lot of people care because they feel like their choices need to be validated by everyone else making the same choice. I notice that the people who act like that usually put no thought into their choice to have kids, and aren't as happy with the reality of it as they hoped they'd be. Happy parents tend not to care what someone else does. Basically, misery loves company.

May be in my next life. ;) It's too dangerous now.

I have kids and I want grandkids (one and counting).

There has been a trend going back to the 60s & 70s for couples to have fewer and fewer children, and I think in part it has to do with economics.

The recent 2% drop may be due to the recession, but I think people want to be able to provide a better life for children than they had.

There is also some question about a womans education affecting the number of children, that postulates are more educated women less likely to have a lot of children or does having more children cause a woman to have less education?

It's back to a chicken & egg type question.

I come from a very large family with 4 brothers and 1 sister, and I have three children.

My children have had 1, 2, and 3 children, all are very educated. Two with Bachelors degrees one with a PHD and the one with the PHD is the one with 3 kids.

I know this, Muslims are having a lot more kids than the rest of the Worlds Population, and here illegals are having more than any other group.

In Parkland Memorial Hospital Dallas, the second busiest maternity ward in the United States, 70% of the women giving birth were illegal aliens.

By the way, how in the world could that happen? Aren't these people asked for ID when they go to hospital or apply for a job? Why is uncle Sam closing his eyes to that breaking of the law?

Nah, I have two already. That is enough for me.

Simple. The kid is about to become a citizen. If you kick out the parents and the kid after the birth you just kicked out a citizen. Kind of a whole catch twenty two with that bit of nonsense.

I do want kids eventually, but not anytime soon.

Yes, I do want children. My wife and I are trying to have our first.

Certain muslim countries birth rates are at the same level as that of most of Europe. Iran, north africa (minus Egypt) a couple of central asian countries birth rates are at or below replacement levels. Nowhere as low as Japan or Italy though

Another uninformed post. Uncle Sam isn't closing his eyes and you don't know what the law is.

We just found out, a week ago, that we are going to have our first grand child. Also, probably last. I didn't realize how happy I've been since the news.

They're poor because they have kids.

I'm getting my tubes tied after this one. I want my life back at some point. Kids drain your life and your income until there's nothing left.

I want the two I have. One is 29 and the other will be 11 in a couple of weeks.

I don't expect I will have the opportunity for any more, but would relish the opportunity. My older son has turned into my best friend and has been an incredible source of much needed support the last month and a half, and the younger is such a cool kid, I can't imagine life without him.
