Yes and Unemployment just got higher. It's now up to 9.2%. Instead of moving forward, Obama is going backward.....to the days of Jimmy Carter.

Gitmo is still open, healthcare reform has been a joke, the Bush tax cuts were extended, another military conflict has been initiated, the Patriot Act has been extended ect. I'm having trouble thinking of something that president Obama has delivered that candidate Obama promised.

The extra credit for getting Bin laden is the only thing keeping him from recieving a failing grade from me.
I share this same Grade, but from a Conservative perspective. Yes, Osama getting nailed on his watch gets him a little cred. His force feeding health care for over a year when he should have been working on jobs and allowing a better environment for job creation, the unpopular and failure of the continued Bush stimulus spending, the continued GW Bush foreign policy, expansion into Libya as a 3rd war without Congressional approval or support are just some of the things that are disappointing.

He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

I gave him a B, I don't live the US and don't know whats happening first hand, so my opinion of him is much different than yours. Seems like he has the right intentions, but is ****ing it up in practise. Don somethings right and quite a bit wrong but still a half decent president. Not the worst you've ever had IMO.

Ok, this is one of those, all else being the same, not living in my ideal world type things.

    • Unintentional side benefit of the Health care legislation (which I mostly hate) is that disabled people who want to work, will be able to qualify for medicaid without having to go through the means testing crap.
    • EITC payments (our negative income tax) opened up more for people with 3 children.
    • The various down payment assistance programs for lower income people, to purchase homes. It isn't a blindingly easy to qualify for, which is good for responsible low income people.

That's 3 quick ones, could be more though.

Just to do a quick summery, there are a couple of things I think he's signed on that have been positive, in my opinion.
Particularly, opening up the Pell grant to part time students.
Which was sorely needed for working adults.

The bad is his continued political word/speech manipulation.
    Hate politicians that do that.
    It shows dishonesty.
Pretty much all politicians do that. The only politicians that don't do that are the ones on the outside looking in.

Messaging through the manipulation of language is just an inherent part of politics. Just look at how many people freaked out at "death panels" and "rationing care," despite the fact that the status quo at the time was pretty much rationing and death panels by default.

Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

    Re: Presidential Report Card

Last time we had this thread (probably about a year ago) I think I gave Obama a B+. Now I'm downgrading him to a C-. His negotiation tactics (on the Bush tax cuts, on the budget, on the debt ceiling) have been unbelievably weak. He's ramped up our involvement in Afghanistan and continued that boondoggle long after it became evident that it was a disaster, he's continued to wage a war on drugs, and he's gotten us involved in a covert war in Yemen and an overt war in Libya.
    Are you coming to bed?
    I can't. This is important.

Yep but PBO is an exceedingly excellent speaker, there is something more deceptive to me about that.
