I give him a big fat F double minus. He is a complete failure and has replaced Jimmy Carter as the worst President in History.

I would agree that Libya is a mistake...but I've always contended that domestic politics plays an important part in foreign policy. If the US hadn't intervened in Libya, he would've been criticized for having less balls than the French, and Libya would be his Rwanda.

stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

He isn't placating me, and I am by no means very far to the right.

    D+.

According to a lefty like myself Obama has been far from impressive thus far. I understand that he's not a dictator and he doesn't have a magic wand but his campaign promises have yet to be applied. Gitmo is still open, healthcare reform has been a joke, the Bush tax cuts were extended, another military conflict has been initiated, the Patriot Act has been extended ect. I'm having trouble thinking of something that president Obama has delivered that candidate Obama promised.

The extra credit for getting Bin laden is the only thing keeping him from recieving a failing grade from me.

I think he's good at rallying his own team, at least on the hill...and since he set records for voter participation in '08 I had to weigh that ability to incite the base and independents like he did. Doesn't happen very often.

You wrote two papers on party leadership? What was that like?

    Candidate Obama =/= President Obama.

I would say Congressional Dems are trying to rally him, more than the other way around. There's an increasingly larger wing of the liberal Dems who are super-dissatisfied with what they perceive has him giving in to the right.

My problem isn't that we did something in Libya, is what we have done after. Our purpose has lacked directions.
