15 years ago and at the time of making a plea deal are two separate things. Plus there is the fact he is being charged with possession. Kind of hard to say you didn't possess an illegal substance if you basically confess to being under the influence of it when you are agreeing to a plea deal.

He could say that he was under the influence of whiskey instead.
