Because that sort of talk (from Pelosi and those like her) is nothing but propaganda. If they really believe what they said, they'd do it without being required by law or tax code.
I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on whats being proposed here, hed agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute. - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

did you ever see that clip of bill maher on his talk show where someone asked him (after he whined about the Bush Tax cuts) if he sent extra money to the government to make up for the cut he received? sadly I couldn't find it on youtube but it was a hilarious mix of whining and hypocrisy. The little weasel hemmed and hawed and finally sputtered that only he doing that wouldn't "matter" and would only be a "drop in the bucket". I wonder if all those liberal control freaks who want more government and ingratiate themselves with their Obamessiah by sending him a letter asking for higher taxes have actually paid more to the government or are rather trying to promote the empty suit's re election while trying to screw over the upper middle class at the same time

People can still learn to live within their means. My family grew up basically in poverty. We didn't have nice TVs, had one car (took the subway when we needed to). We never ate out and bought off brand foods. We made very little but didn't go in debt because we lived within our means. I have seen many middle class people go into debt because they buy houses they cannot afford, they buy cars they cannot afford, they finance major purchases on credit cards like computers and expensive TVs. People need to learn to live with what they have and be content, not to accrue debt and finance everything.

I haven't seen it, but I certainly have seen enough of Maher to know the hemming and hawing you're talking about.

Since we have had a few replies I will answer. No I have not voluntarily payed extra taxes. With that said I would voluntarily pay extra if and when I felt the government would spend it where I thought it should be spent and not waste it on things I do not feel that it should be. Seeing how Im more likely to win the lottery twice then to ever see that happening I doubt I ever voluntarily pay more then I am required to.

I already pay way too much in taxes. Giving the government extra money is a waste of money. Far better to give it to my alma mater, my kid's school, the olympic sports I support, homes for orphaned children etc

The wealthy are the ones who provide jobs. If you raise their taxes, what do you think is going to happen? They will lay people off, cut the hours of the people they keep, stop hiring, and then raise their prices to make up for the tax hike. In other words, they won't be paying the hire taxes.....YOU will. Higher taxes only hurts the economy and costs jobs.

If the government did things correctly it would not be a waste of money. They could lower and eventually eliminate the debt therefor able to lower taxes on everyone eventually.

true-right now many politicians-mostly dems but more than a few Republicans-want us to pay more so they can convince the weakminded that more money is available to buy voters' support
